Background Jackson David Thompson was born to Louisiana Governor William Thompson and university professor Dr. Allison Parish Thompson. He had the ideal childhood, growing up at his parents' home on Ayer's Island in the Gulf of Mexico. He never wanted for anything, attending the best schools and receiving the best care possible. His parents knew that he would one day follow in his mother's footsteps in education before stepping into the political arena like his father. More than a few thoughts of a seat on the Federation Council, or even the Presidency, ran through William Thompson's mind.

Jackson did not disappoint his parents as he grew older, developing into both a strong athlete and academic. He did well in high school, staying at the top of his class academically while also playing on his high school's football team, albeit a team that lost much more often than it won. He graduated at the top of his class and, as his parents had planned, attended his father's alma mater, and his mother's employer, Tulane University.

Jackson majored in literature, specifically that of human authors. In the process he studied many old languages, including Greek, Latin and French, in an attempt to better understand works by reading them in their natural language. He absorbed everything he could get his hands on, pleasing his parents further as he continued to excel in his studies and graduated near the top of his class with high honors. Everything was as they had planned for him.

That was when Jackson threw everyone for a loop and, instead of working for his father as an intern, applied to Starfleet Academy. His parents and friends both told him he was making a mistake and wasting his life in Starfleet, but it was impossible for them to turn him just as it was impossible for Jackson to explain why he had made the decision. Something about it just seemed right to him. As the day for him to leave neared Governor William Thompson informed his son, in no uncertain terms, that if he left that would be the end of his time as a member of the family.

Jackson never looked back.

Jackson excelled in the Academy just as he had in college. He found his natural talent for engineering and a love of machinery just as he had found a love of literature. He applied himself to his studies, working hard to learn as much as he could to be the best he could be, a lesson his parents had long before drilled into him. Upon his graduation, which his parents did not attend, Jackson found himself posted to the USS Sulu.

Personality Profile Jackson went against the wishes of his parents and the advice of his friends when he joined Starfleet, and he feels abandoned by both. He is trying to plan his own future and do what he wants to do with his life, but he is more than a little unsure of whether or not he is making the right decisions.
Physical Description Jackson is physically rather imposing; he is tall and his job keeps him lean and fit. His dark blonde hair and light eyes soften his image as does the usually friendly look on his face.
