| Background |
Jorell was born and raised on Betazed by his parents Menal and Gerren Thalan. Jorell has three older sisters, Enya (Federation Ambassador), Airis (Federation Negotiator), and Menal (Counselling Instructor, Starfleet Academy), who have dedicated themselves to helping others. Growing up Jorell was always rebellious of his family's wishes. He was not always a 'people person', and disliked the prospect of following his sisters' path. As soon as he was able, he joined up with Starfleet, choosing to go into Security. As a young man in Starfleet Academy, Jorell focused on his studies and career-to-be. In his last year at the Academy he was one of a select few who were chosen to finish his studies aboard a starship. Aboard the USS Chimera, Jorell proved himself a capable man and officer, impressing his senior officer and captain. His telepathy seemed to greatly aid him as a security officer. Within a year he was commissioned an Ensign and became a full, official, member of the crew of the Chimera. A year later the Chimera encountered a Dominion force and was destroyed. Jorell was one of the survivors who managed to reach an escape pod before the ship was destroyed. Landing on a barely habitable moon, he gathered the survivors and managed to survive three weeks before rescue arrived. Shortly after his rescue, Jorell received a promotion and was assigned to Starfleet Security as a security officer stationed on Earth. He was to use his abilities to watch for any troubles from any infiltration. He was mentored by Chief Petty Officer Calvin Daniels. The CPO showed the young lieutenant the ropes of good policing. Jorell spent a year and a half planet bound before being reassigned. Though Jorell was not impressed with being stationed on Earth, he learned much from CPO Daniels, but missed his old mentor who died in the attacks on Starfleet HQ by the Breen. After his time on Earth he was assigned to ambassadorial duty. He was assigned to protect Ambassadors as they went about the Federation visiting allies and making new contacts. Jorell felt his talents were being wasted guarding a select few while many hundreds of thousands died fighting the Dominion/Cardassians. During one of his assignments he was assigned to his sister, Enya, as she met with the Romulans. Enroute to make one of her meetings, the ship was attacked by the Dominion. The ship was boarded and Jorell led the security forces and repelled the Jem'Hadar invaders long enough for the ship's engineers to repair the warp drive and escape. The battle cost sixteen lives and thirty-five wounded, including Jorell. After receiving a citation for distinguished service, and a promotion, Jorell was assigned as a security officer on Starbase 103. Less then a month there he became involved with a fellow officer, Lt. Elizabeth Marks. Seven months later, as the relationship ended badly, Jorell requested a transfer. It was granted. He found himself aboard the USS Ranger, an old starship that had been decommissioned years before, but had been brought back after the war losses. Jorell, though not liking his new posting, made the best of it. He caught the eye of his senior officer, Commander Sherwood, and soon found himself learning from a veteran. On a planet-side mission, into the investigation of terrorists, Commander Sherwood was shot and killed. Jorell was on the mission and watched this mentor die while not being able to help him. He took charge of the mission, withdrew temporarily before returning to capture or kill the terrorists. For his actions, from both the mission and those previous as well as the high recommendations by Commander Sherwood, Jorell was promoted to Chief of Security on the Ranger. Jorell served aboard the Ranger until the ship was again decommissioned. Jorell took some of his leave. His trip ended up landing him in the middle of a conspiracy of several individuals attempting to steal a federation starship. So instead of enjoying some R&R Jorell infiltrated the group and in the end stopped the theft. For his efforts Jorell was given a citation for actions above and beyond the call of duty. Jorell received new orders to report to the USS Sulu and was not able to return to his vacation. |

| Personality Profile |
On the surface Jorell is a simple person. He is kind and outgoing but underneath though is a struggle to prove himself, to himself. The man has a hard time committing to personal relationships, as he always immerses himself into his duty first. On occasion and never with appointment he visits whomever is the closest Counsellor and discusses how he feels about the many things he has done in his duty that haunts him to this day. Overall Jorell is strong willed and confident in his duties. He does lack the personal commitments that often lead him to throw caution to the wind and dive into matters before they are thought through. |
