Background Marp was the youngest of 6 children, 4 brothers and 1 sister. His father was a well respected member of the court of the Grand Nagus who had earned considerable profit. Marp spent his entire childhood living in the shadow of his brothers’ successes. They, like their father, were well on their way to making their fortunes.

By the time Marp was 16 he had already established and failed at three business opportunities. This prompted his brothers to suggest that he might want to help his mother and sister chew the family meals because he did not have the lobes for business.

In 2371 Marp decided that he had had enough and hatched a plan to end is profit woes. Marp made several trades in the Ferengi Commodity Market. Things went well for a while until it was discovered that he falsely created the commodities in question and even provided fake market data. This (the fact that he was caught) cost his father his position with the Nagus and quite a bit of his own profit. Marp was told that he did not have the lobes for business and was disowned by his father.

Deciding that he was indeed a failure at business Marp left Ferenginar and eventually found himself entering Starfleet Academy. For the first time in his life Marp found himself being successful. He found that when there was no pressure to earn profit he actually did well. He studied science and especially enjoyed botany. While he was there, he became famous for his floating poker game. He enjoyed life so much in the academy that he opted to spend another two years there taking on engineering and flight school.

Eventually he graduated from the academy and was assigned to the USS Sulu
Personality Profile Marp is an easy going Ferengi and makes friends easily. He does not like to talk about his childhood or his family as he views them as a failure on his part. He will go out of his way to avoid contact with other Ferengi.
