Background

Born in Galway Ireland, to a well off family, Terrance was fascinated by space at an early age. The Fletcher family consisted of Terrance, his sisters Harriet and Charlotte, and his parents, Morgan and Patrick.

Morgan, Terrance's mother, was a lawyer. Having studied law at the University of Dublin, she had been admitted to the bar when her second child, Charlotte, was born. She runs a successful small firm, mainly dealing with conveyancing and corporate cases. Though getting on in her years, she still has an infamous fiery streak that other lawyers fear, and Terrance seems to have inherited.

In contrast to his wife, Patrick Fletcher, Terrance's father, is a calm, easygoing man. Being one of the few doctors in the area where he lives, he is much sought after and well respected and known by those there. He is always smiling and enjoys his job and life in general.

Terrance is the eldest of the Fletcher children. His sister Charlotte, 28, was always the brightest of the children and followed in her mother's footsteps to become a lawyer. Terrance's youngest sister, Harriet, is 22 and is a hairdresser.

Terrance decided at an early age to become a doctor like his father, and spent the whole of his early life trying for this goal. However space still lured, even then.

His uncle, Raymond Fletcher, was a lieutenant in Starfleet and was serving onboard the USS Republic. Whenever Lt. Fletcher found himself on leave and on Earth, he would always find his nephew latched to his arm, asking him to tell stories about space and what he had seen. Lt. Fletcher gladly obliged. It was with these stories that Terrance first began to get attracted to outer space. When his uncle was severely injured in action and had to be discharged, Terrance went to live with him in South Africa.

His uncle and aunt had married late and had no children of their own, so they gladly took Terrance in. At first, Terrance's mother opposed the plan, but soon relented when Patrick agreed, even supporting the move. Patrick knew of Terrance's ambitions to be a doctor, but also knew that being confined to Earth would not do good to his son.

Starting high school in South Africa, Terrance was only to stay there for two years, before his uncle died of complications from his injury. Terrance was deeply moved and before long he grew cagey and hostile, to all but his aunt, with whom he seemed to have grown a bond. It was with her that he moved to Australia.

His aunt thought that the sun would be good for him. His parents, seeing no better way for Terrance to recover from Raymond's death, agreed. Completing his schooling in North Sydney Boys High School, Terrance was academically bright enough to achieve the necessary scores for him to get into Medical.

His path after high school was predictable. For his father he studied medicine and for his uncle he joined Starfleet. Terrance's years at the Academy were some of his best. Studying Medicine, Terrance still kept active in his other interests such as soccer. Terrance opted to join the Diplomacy course in addition to his Medical studies. All those years spent arguing with his siblings had given him a rather remarkable skill in debate but they had also given him a good set of skills in diplomacy as well. Being the eldest he had always played the role of mediator.

Studying medicine for the two years extra to other courses allowed Terrance to stay in the Academy for a lot longer, which allowed him the extra time for his other subjects. However when he tried for the Bridge Duty Certificate in his final two years, Terrance found that there was no way he could juggle the two and opted out from the Bridge Duty and concentrated on his major in Medicine.

Passing medicine, just below the honors standard, Terrance was content. For his efforts and extracurricular work he was awarded the cadet star. But he was not yet ready to go into space. He spent the next two years at Chicago University, earning his masters in Microbiology. Now with his post-graduate work done, he was ready to go into space.

Working onboard his first assignment really opened Terrance's eyes to working on a starship. Through some luck, Terrance was assigned to the USS Republic, his late uncle's former post. But unlike his uncle, the ops officer, Terrance spent nearly all his time in Sickbay, acquainting himself with the function of starships, and his function aboard them.

After two years, Terrance's work led him to appointed Asst. Chief Medical officer onboard a small science vessel, the USS Magellan. It was here where Terrance's skills were really put to the test, having to deal with various exotic viruses and diseases, unleashed by the scientist. Somehow he seems to have pulled through and survived for half a year, but obviously having enough, Terrance transferred at the next space station to the USS Davies, where he received a temporary commission of Medical officer.

After returning home, Terrance was sent to Starbase 625 in the Delta quadrant. From there he was sent to the USS Sentinel where he was promoted to Lieutenant Junior grade and made her Assistant Chief Medical Officer. He soon became her Chief Surgeon, and Terrance's skill in the surgery room was much appreciated on several missions. Unfortunately, the Sentinel was decommissioned only six months into Terrance tenure.

He was then sent to Task Force 72 in the Delta Quadrant to serve as the Assistant Chief Medical Officer on the USS Firehawk. Again his skill in surgery propelled him to prominence in the region, attracting the attention of Rear Admiral Jaeden Vorik. Terrance was accompanying the Admiral on a diplomatic mission when their shuttle crashed on a small, densely jungled moon. The Admiral, Terrance and Lieutenant Subaa, their Intel Officer were the only survivors. Both the Admiral and Lt. Subaa were injured. Terrance had been fortunate to only have broken his arm.

What happened next could be considered a miracle. Terrance used what meager tools that were in his field kit to patch up the two as best he could. Eking out an existence on the moon, the three stayed there for three weeks, before Lt. Subaa repaired their communications systems and signaled for help.

Those three weeks were to have a dramatic effect on Terrance's life. He had won the Admiral's eternal gratitude for his work, but he had also, and perhaps more importantly, won Lt. Subaa's respect and admiration. So much so, that the Intelligence Officer named Terrance as his attaché, and took him along on several missions.

During the year where he was technically working for Starfleet Intelligence, Terrance used his Medical background as a cover. No one, anywhere, suspected the doctor. When his last mission, a dangerous one, where a leading Romulan scientist defected, came to a conclusion resulting in his cover being blown, Terrance's use to SI was reduced. Terrance returned to the Firehawk.

Upon his return, Rear Admiral Vorik, now a Vice Admiral, immediately promoted Terrance to lieutenant both out of gratitude for the shuttle crash and for the intelligence work. Terrance was also offered a position on the Admiral's staff. To this he declined.

When it looked like his career was at a peak, Terrance returned home to a semi-retirement, refusing all commissions. He had had enough of space for now. He spent the next five years working to earn his Doctorate in Microbiology and his Masters in Xenobiology at Chicago University. Several colleagues joked that he was becoming more of a scientist than a medical man.

Terrance at last relented to the demands from Starfleet to return to active service on the day that he received his Doctorate in Microbiology.

He was now ready and fired up to return to the practicing Starship Medicine. He may have aged, but in his mind, his skills are still sharp.

Personality Profile

Fun loving and fond of a drink, Terrance finds it almost impossible to be serious. Though capable, he just finds it easier to be a bit casual. Terrance often finds himself the center of attention due to his bright nature. Constantly trying to entertain these audiences, Terrance sometimes finds himself laughing at the most obscure things.

It is this optimistic attitude that also fuels Terrance's determination. Not willing to give up on something when he has decided upon it, Terrance can sometimes be stubborn.

Despite his uncle's death, which he seems to have gotten over, Terrance still enjoys life and he is rarely pessimistic in any situation.

Physical Description

Being tall and strong, Terrance has a dominating even burly appearance. However, he is surprisingly agile for someone of his stature.

Terrance keeps his sandy blond hair relatively short.

Terrance's golden hazel eyes are deadly. When he turns on his charm, his eyes, coupled with his trademark smile usually dynamite them. However, when annoyed, a single glare from Terrance would be fatal. His glare is both intense and penetrating and when used, it probably was stern enough to stop the Romulan Battle Fleet.

He is always smiling and seems to be one of those people whose facial bone structure is more inclined to smiling than frowning. Whatever the reason, natural or not, it is unlikely for this smile to wane.
