For one born to a peaceful race, Sorien Case always had a bit of fight in him. In formative years, it led to small battles with bullies who dared to think unkind thoughts about him or his friends in his presence. It led to fierce telepathic debates with instructors about the pacifistic nature of the Betazoid people. It led to some small degree of isolation since few shared his views and eventually it led him into Starfleet at the age of 17.

Desiring action, Sorien chose the quicker route to the fleet as an enlisted man though testing showed he might have been able to enter the Academy as a Cadet if only he'd been willing to wait another year. During his enlisted basic and technical training, he so impressed his instructors that he was guaranteed one of precious few enlisted slots at Advanced Tactical Training. He began instruction there immediately upon completion of his primary and secondary enlisted schools.

After a two-year hitch on a special assignment, newly promoted Petty Officer Case came aboard the Roosevelt where he served as a weapons specialist until the Battle of Wolf 359. Case was one of the few survivors of the Roosevelt who managed to avoid assimilation. His actions were instrumental in getting remaining crew to the escape pods and he had prepared himself to fight to the last but five crewmembers physically drug him aboard an escape pod. His actions eventually earned him the Kragite Order of Heroism.

Following the destruction of the Roosevelt, Case took a brief sojourn to Betazed to recover from wounds received in the battle. While there he finally married Lylandria, his genetic bond-mate. Though they hadn't seen one another since Sorien left for Starfleet both accepted and appreciated the cultural tradition. In fact, deep love swiftly developed between the two and by the time he left for the Orpheus, his new wife was already carrying their first child.

Case found himself in constant motion, preferring new places and challenges to a stagnating duty station. His wife and young daughter came and lived with him on Earth while he served as an Academy physical fitness and self-defense instructor and the couple had twin daughters before he was reassigned to the Appalacia. He served with distinction aboard that vessel and was with them when the Borg attacked Earth in 2373.

As the Dominion War heated up, Case went on special assignment, getting dropped into various vicious ground engagements all over the Alpha Quadrant. When Betazed was invaded, Case requested and got placed in the thick of the occupied planet and fought his way to his family only to discover them murdered.

Sorien fought on the occupied planet for the next year, organizing resistance cells and revenging himself upon the Dominion and the Jem Hadar. By the time the war ended, he'd lost his sight in his left eye and his heart had been stopped twice; once by the Jem Hadar in a battle outside of the capital Rixx and the day that he found his wife and three daughters dead.

Case left Starfleet for the next three years, hiring out for mercenary work and trying to get past his personal losses. Finding space and his life a big empty without the structure of Starfleet, Case returned to the service and after a short year recruiting for Starfleet on Mars, he got a coveted assignment as a Weapons Specialist to the USS Hikaru Sulu.

Sorien's bearing is reminiscent of ancient military protocols combined with tightly coiled steel and he can give the feeling of being dangerous without uttering a word. While Case's impressive physique can usually dominate a room he also seems to have the uncanny ability to go unnoticed when he desires it. Countless covert operations have made Case swift, careful, and silent.

Case is blind in his left eye. His facial scar and deadeye are the result of wounds he received at Jem Hadar hands while fighting for his home world. Although modern surgical techniques could eliminate the scar and implant an artificial ocular device, Sorien keeps it so any mirror is a constant reminder of the loss of his family. Likewise, his body displays a fair latticework of scars and burns that were never properly treated but healed naturally in the field. He is not at all vain about them and has no plans to see any of them removed.
