Background Coming from a very long line of engineers and inventors, all highly prominent in their time, Calyca couldn't help but be fascinated by all kinds of gadgets and inventions. Born aboard the Dantrich Orbital Station-12, to Dr. Thomas Boothroyd and then Lieutenant Commander Leanna O'Malley-Boothroyd, Calyca's upbringing was taken over by her father and her life became one of endless study and education, labs and workshops, offset by seemingly random times spent in her mother's care. Where most normal, planet-bound girls her age might have had boyfriends and vehicles, credit sticks and prom dresses, Calyca had a compact working android that she'd designed and built herself, chemical compounds, robotic spiders and security clearances, along with dinners and social events that included a range of people from heads of state, to security, to scientists as she played escort to her father's endless scientific functions, and was dragged along to just as many state functions with her mother, who was working her way up through the ranks.

Caly, or Llew as some call her, was something of a child prodigy and coupled with the normal schooling that every child received, her father tutored her heavily and she spent most of her time in his laboratory learning, inventing, fixing, and generally making a productive nuisance of herself. Nothing in the lab was safe from being taken apart and put back together at least once by her. Sometimes with modifications that were totally non-standard issue.

By the time she was 21, she'd graduated the DOS University with honors, earning Bachelor's degrees in Bio-Chemical and Mechanical Engineering with specialties in Robotics and Propulsion. Despite being heavily culled by her father for a position within the scientific community, what she really wanted was to join Starfleet Academy. So with her mother's blessing and her father grumbling, she applied for and was accepted into the Starfleet Academy. However what her mother didn't know at the time was that Caly enrolled in Starfleet's Enlisted program rather than the Cadet's.

Calyca was well liked by her fellow crewmen at the Academy. She has a good sense of humor and is generally in a good mood, making her very pleasant to be around. However she can, much to the experience of a few of her classmates, have a bad hair day every now and then. She is witty and can be very charming, making her also well liked by her teachers. Her sense of humor can be rather dry and biting and takes some getting used to, but one can usually see the twinkle in her eyes if they look.

She graduated from Starfleet Academy when she was twenty-three, much to her mother's dismay and her father's enjoyment. That the two didn't agree was obvious. To her mother, it was a disappointment. Oh, not disappointment in Caly, but in her chosen path. To her father, it was highly amusing in an ironic way. Caly had seen what her mother's job entailed first hand, and decided that administration and Upper Command levels weren't really for her. She'd rather be up to her elbows in grease, or taking apart some broken piece of equipment and putting it back together... -- Although being broken wasn't really a prerequisite for getting dismantled. And she believed, not that she'd spout this off to her mother or likely any other officer, that it was the enlisted that were actually the backbone of the service.

Her first assignment was aboard the USS Rabin where she served for four years, getting excellent reviews from her superior officers and colleagues, and earning a promotion. Her time spent on the Rabin was a flurry of continued studies and hands-on application of what she'd been learning. She earned her Masters of Science degrees in both Starship Propulsion and Cybernetics and Robotics while on the Rabin. She also attained her Certifications in Impulse Propulsion, Warp Propulsion, and Starship Weaponry Systems before being reassigned to the USS Livingston.

She spent the next three years aboard the Livingston where she once again demonstrated exemplary service and earned more shining reviews on her personnel record. Being slightly hyper-active, Calyca is a self-starter, motivated into finding things that need to be done rather than idling away time doing nothing, a trait that often makes her a bit obnoxious because she can be rather like a pit bull at times.

After three years on the Livingston, she was promoted and reassigned to the USS Venture where she spent a short two years learning everything she could about a Galaxy class ship, once again putting into practice those things she'd been taught and learning in the process. She reluctantly left the Venture to be assigned to the USS Exeter. After a year there, she received a promotion to Chief Petty Officer complete with the traditional month-long hazing which earned her a reputation for taking things in stride, and where her odd sense of humor flourished. She served for a year longer on the Exeter before being reassigned to the USS Hikaru Sulu.

Personality Profile Calyca is easy to get along with, outgoing and fun. She's good at crawling around in things and getting herself filthy. She's got that whole, give me bubble gum, a Swiss army knife, piece of tinfoil and I can fix the reactor (slight exaggeration, I know ;)), disposition going. She's the hands-on, get either intensely focused or side tracked, slightly hyper-active sort. She has a quick wit and loves a good practical joke. She's just as much at home hanging out with the `guys` as she is attending an elaborate dinner affair or state function. She's generally organized, but you'd never know it to look at her work area. That's usually something she lavishes on other people and doesn't take the time for herself. That doesn't mean she can't find things... Eventually...
Physical Description Calyca is a petite well built, athletic woman. She stands at just 5`2" and keeps herself in shape by working out, running and free climbing. She wears her red hair cut short for ease of maintenance and her green eyes are always bright and alert.
