Physical Description: Lani is a tall, beautiful young woman whose deep red hair cascades down her shoulders when she lets it down. Usually it is tightly bound in a pony tail. Her eyes are slightly almond shaped, betraying an Asian ancestry, whose color can range from a light sea green to the deepest of emeralds. It all depends on her mood. Lani is a natural athlete and her body reflects this in its well defined curves and lean muscle.
Professional History: Lani has been a Princess, a CompForce Scout, an Alliance Specfor officer, and a smuggler.
Background: Lanissia al Vissip was born during the much celebrated Bai'Pont ceremony on the planet of Calimdor. Calimdor is a large, fertile planet in the Asra System, which lies near the Galactic Core. Her brother, who at the times was only four standard years old, could not pronounce her name correctly, only getting out "Lani". The nickname stuck and soon only her mother called her by her full name anymore. Her father, Hadrian, was the Duke and de facto ruler of the planet. He was a hero of the Clone Wars, having commanded one of the powerful 'Dreadnaught' class battleships. He was given the planet by a grateful Emperor Palpatine after Hadrian led a task force to save the Imperial Ruler from a trap set by his enemies. Hadrian had always been a staunch supporter of the Senator-turned-Emperor, and dove into Palpatine's 'New Order' with gusto. Lani was her father's daughter from day one. She always went wherever her father went and he doted on her completely. Much to her mother's dismay, Lani became tomboyish because of her father. Lani's natural athletic ability was recognized early on in her childhood and, young as she was, she soon had several gymnastics tutors. Her father also hired Master Tia Tomlinson, a renowned martial arts instructor who happened to live on planet, to teach her the ancient Echani martial art. Hadrian was determined that nothing was going to happen to his little girl. At first, Master Tia was gruff and resented the job he had agreed to undertake, for Lani was extremely young and didn't truly understand what she was doing. But soon her constant cheerfulness as well as her strong desire to learn won him over and he came to love the little girl as his own. So, at the extremely tender age of five, Lani began her instruction in Echani. Briel was Lani's cousin, as well as the hereditary Count of the lusciously forested district of Yorindol. He was also her best friend, though he was ten years her senior. Briel was an avid hunter and was also considered to be a master marksman by the time he was 18. He had always been close to his little cousin and one day when Lani was 10, he decided to take the fiercely independent little girl with him. Because she was too young to carry a T-21 rifle like him, Briel gave her a beat up Republic issue blaster pistol to use. Several hours into the hunt, they were surprised by a dynaboar, an omnivorous pig-like creature that often attacks people without warning. Before the Count could bring his rifle to bear on the beast, Lani had already shot it twice in one of its large yellow eyes. It was purely on reflex and he could tell his cousin was afraid, but he was amazed at the speed and accuracy she had fired the pistol with. He vowed that he would take this little girl and teach her everything he knew about shooting. Briel soon learned that though Lani could fire a pistol with uncanny accuracy, her aim with any kind of rifle was atrocious, and it didn't seem to improve with practice. When Lani was 16 years old she stood up at the dinner table one day and announced her intention to apply at the Imperial Academy. The announcement rocked her mother, who had always hoped that her beautiful but tomboy daughter would grow up to be the debutante and diplomat she always wanted. Her father, a practical man with a desire to see his daughter succeed in whatever she did, applauded her decision and immediately got to work pulling the necessary strings to get his daughter into the male dominated Academy. By the time of her announcement, Lani had been studying Echani with Master Tia for almost 11 years. Master Tia named her a Master of the Echani Du'Gat (Twin Knife) style. Her cousin Briel had also declared her to be the best shot he had ever seen with a pistol. "She's Good enough even to be me!" he would often joke with friends. Lani spent two hard years at the Imperial Academy. At first the young woman was the object of ridicule and discrimination from the chauvinistic staff and teachers. Many said that had to have slept with someone important in order to have made it past the entrance exams. Most were quickly silenced when she excelled at everything she put her mind to. Lani entered into a hyperfocused state of mind, her normally strong determination tempered even more by the insults. There were downsides, however, to this way of thinking. She became reclusive and stayed sequestered in her room for days. She left only to go to classes. When she wasn't studying or sleeping, Her only friend became Echani, which she practiced every day for hours. One day, though, a certain rumor reached even her ears. A pair of senior students both claimed to have slept with her in the same bed, reportedly doing some rather heinous acts together. Lani had never had a very good reign on her temper, and when she heard this vile rumor, she exploded like a thermal detonator being dropped into a fusion core. She hunted down both of the boys and demanded that they take back what they said, or they could face her in the arena ring outside the main building. Both of the young men looked at the angry redhead, who was already taller than many there, and told her with the confidence built of ignorance to go fuck herself. Lani said that she would decry them both as cowards and the worst lay she had ever had to the entire school. Neither boy want to take back what the had said, but at the same time they didn't want to really hurt this pretty girl in front of them. One decided that the ring was easier to deal with and managed to convince his partner. Lani told them she would take them both on at the same time in the morning. They could being whatever weapon they wanted, blaster or blade.
The match happened early the next morning, with the majority of the student body, as well as the staff, in attendance. It was over after barely a minute. Both of the perpetrators lay dead at her feet, one with his head nearly shorn from his shoulders, as Lani sheathed her gore covered knives. At the Academy there were several old CompForce officers whose job it was to filter the school for potential recruits. After watching Lani in action they decided unanimously that the fierce young woman had to be recruited. When the offer was made, Lani jumped at the opportunity to join the elite organization, having grown bored of the discriminatory ways of the Academy. She was soon sent off to Tarsis IV for her training. The learning at the camp was much more rigorous than it had ever been at the Academy, and it almost caught her off guard. Besides the numerous laws and regulations of the Empire, recruits were also required to learn how to operate most of the ground vehicles in the Imperial arsenal, how to operate and repair most of the weapons used by the Empire, and how to operate and repair the many type of power armor used by CompForce troopers. There were also daily propaganda meetings and discussions. CompForce troopers were almost as brainwashed as Stormtroopers. Lani loved it at the camp. No one cared that she was a woman or that she came from a rich and influential family. She was one of them now, a CompForce trooper, there to enforce the laws of the Empire and protect its loyal citizens. Lani was singled out early in her basic training as one who would possibly go to the highly advanced Scout school. The Scouts were CompForce's "Elite of the Elite." They were the individual troopers that could be sent behind enemy lines, in any situation, and blend in until their mission could be completed. They were the type of soldier that could walk unseen into an armed encampment and walk away alive and smiling with a fire in the background. Lani was giving training in survival, torture, stealth, impersonation, marksmanship (quickly change when they saw her handle an E-12), and of course hand to hand. Her instructor in Teras Kasi was both surprised and delighted that she was already a master of Echani, for it made his job much easier. Since she already knew the basic, Lani was placed into advanced courses, where she excelled. Lani only spent a year at the CompForce Basic Training camp and only 6 months at the Scout school, but she had the next several years in the field to hone her skills to a fine edge. Everything seemed to be going well for her. Her parents were both extremely proud of their daughter when they learned she had graduated from the elite CompForce Scout school at the top of her class, though they brought the sad news that her brother Andros had disappeared. One day though, many years down the road, everything evil and bad about the Empire, whose loyal citizens she had defended time and time again, clubbed her over the head with a single act. That act, the act of killing a child, snapped her mind out of the fog of propaganda and lies that it was been residing in for as long as she could remember. Lani knew that she could no longer stay with her comrades, for she would be forced to kill them. She realized that the acts committed by her hands had furthered the cause of evil. She then made a decision that would forever alter her course. She decided to seek out the Rebellion. She deserted the next morning and used the last of her funds to purchase a charter flight out to the Yavin system. Rumors of high Rebel activity had been filtering down slowly through the ranks and it was hear the Lani hoped to make contact. She flew through the system twice, broadcasting on every circuit she could think of with her proposal of surrender and request for asylum. Her answer came in the form of a pair of X-Wings who formed up on her small freighter and escorted to a moon orbiting the gas giant Yavin itself. It was at this hidden Rebel HQ, 6 months before the Death Star would appear in the sky, that Lani would meet the infamous Mon Mothma, leader of the Alliance, for the first time. It was Mon Mothma herself that granted Lani's asylum and, after and intense questioning and debriefing, allowed her to join the Rebellion. Because of the stigma associated with being a former CompForce Scout, therefore and Imperial, Lani was assigned to a position as an unarmed combat instructor at the report Echo Base on Hoth. Much to her surprise, her brother Andros was also at the station. The missing Andros, who had never gotten along well with their father, had fled home after hearing about plans for him to enter into the Imperial Academy as well. He had been accepted into the Alliance and by the time he spoke to his sister, for the first time in almost 10 years, he had already attained the rank of major. Lani had a new focus in life with her position. She drilled the soldiers of Echo Base relentlessly, determined that each and every one of them would be as good as she was. She also was looking at ways to advance her own lot in life. By the time the news of the first Death Star's destruction reach the remote base, Lani had just pinned on her Lieutenant's bars. In the ensuing celebration, she was accepted to the Alliance's Specfor teams. She remained on Hoth and trained with her new team for several months. She eventually got to meet the Heroes of the Battle of Yavin. Han Solo, Lea Organa, Luke Skywalker, and Chewbacca had all showed up. Unfortunately, the Empire was close on their tail. The Battle for Hoth was fierce and brutal. Lani and her small team of four were charged with the defense of Echo Base's large civilian population, and had to ensure that everyone under their charge made it out alive. They did their job well, every one of their charges made it to a shuttle in time. However, there was no room for Lani or for her team. She was told of a small outpost hidden in the mountains where they could shelter and hide from the Empire for a little while. The outpost was not very large, but the supplies in it could last for several months, or even years, with only five mouths to feed. The former Imperial was not content with standing idly by, however, and Lani led her team and several very successful raids on the Imperial holdings. On their last raid, she and her three remaining men managed to steal a Lambda-class shuttle and make it off planet. She soon reunited with the Rebel fleet and was awarded the Medal of Gallantry for her actions during as well as after the battle. Lani did several more missions with the Rebellion, but soon grew tired of the political infighting often associated with special forces units. She had met a young man named Rylaa Lyssander who had promised her riches and adventure. Though she didn't really believe, the charming young man had somehow convinced her to join him. And so she left one adventurous life for another. At first Lani was unsure of what she had done, hooking up with a confessed criminal and gallivanting around the galaxy smuggling illegal goods. But after awhile she began to fall in love with the charming Rylaa and figured that maybe she had made the right decision after all.
Lani recently met up with her former boss and boyfriend while onboard the Drogen Shipyards. After the two had a brief spat, Lani discovered that Rylaa had been captured by a Trandoshan bounty hunter and set off to rescue him. The two escaped from the orbital platform and have had several adventures since. While on the planet of Avalon VI, Lani made two startling discoveries. One was told to her by the Jedi Master Vindoo Sharr, whose collecting thoughts and data were stored on the Jedi Holocron they found there. The venerable Jedi Master informed Lani that not only could she use the Force, but had been doing so for quite some time without even realizing it. The second discovery was that Rylaa had become emotional attached to her again and they have since become lovers. Lani hopes she calm slow Rylaa's thunderous progress fearing that it might one day lead to his downfall. She also hopes that perhaps she can curb his ever darker thoughts and designs.
Personality: Lani is normally a cheerful person. She has an easy laugh and a vibrant smile that she flashes all the time. She has a tendency to joke around and has an excellent sense of humor. However, Lani can be deadpan serious if the situation arises that requires it. She has an explosive temper, and when it is unleashed it can be frightful to watch. Lani has made and agreement with herself to never kill. Unless, of course, she has no other choice, or is given no other option. Or if you really piss her off.
Form of Dress: Lani loves tight t-shirts and cargo pants or shorts. At her waist is her DL-44 BlasTech Heavy Blaster, which was a gift from her brother. She almost always has four vibrodaggers on her at any one time, usually one in each boot and two hidden behind her belt. Her favorite color is blue and most of her outfits incorporate this somehow.
Superhuman Powers and Abilities: Lani is a natural athlete, meaning that almost all physical activity comes easy to her. This includes gymnastics, which have given her an almost inhuman flexibility. She is also a master martial artist, having mastered three forms of Teras Kasi as well as the ancient Echani Twin Blade style. She is Force-sensitive, though she does not know it. The Force, unbeknownst to Lani, augments her already considerable abilities while fighting, one of the primary reasons she is so good at it. By focusing in on her "Center of Being," Lani can sometimes sense all that goes on around her, something that her martial arts training allows her to do without aid of the Force. However, this ability is, again, unknowingly enhanced by her Force sensitivity, making it possible for her to dectect the presence of sentients around her, as well as augment her sense of hearing, sight, and smell. This takes concentration though, and is difficult to do while fighting.
Abilities and Skills: Even though Lani was a tomboy growing up, her mother still made her learn several languages to prepare her for the diplomatic role she never took. Lani can speak Basic, Hutt, Mon Cal, Rodian, and Bith. She also understands Cherwook, the wookiee language, from her time in the Empire. Her time in CompForce gave her many skills. She can drive almost every type of Imperial vehicle, as well as many Rebel ones. She also has extensive survival knowledge in both the wilderness and in an urban setting. She is a crack shot with any pistol, demonstrating a hand-eye coordination level that is uncanny at the least. However, her aim with rifles or carbines is minimal at best and Lani most often adopts a "Spray and Pray" attitude with them. She is not a very good pilot, and usually hates flying altogether. Why she became a smuggler is a question that has plagued her for awhile, though she doesn't seem to want to leave. |
