Background: The life of the Tyris family would change dramatically however with the arrival on Lianna of Major Gorta Jax, an amoral and ruthless Imperial Navy soldier dispatched to the planet as a corporate liaison officer who made his lust for Kemma obvious, though she shot down his every approach. Things came to a head when Kemma's principled parents refused to continue their groundbreaking research under the harsh rule of the Imperials, and in response Jax had Kemma incarcerated on false thievery charges, demanding their cooperation in return for her safety. The anguished cries of her parents as she was dragged from their home in a midnight raid was the last Kemma would ever see of them. Kemma was held in isolation with no word of what had happened to her family for months. With the death (unbeknownst to her) of her parents at the hands of Jax she lost her value to him as a hostage, and was shipped offworld as just another anonymous Imperial prisoner so that the Major might avoid awkward questions from his superiors on the details of his involvement in the matter. Jax arranged for Kemma was eventually transferred to the planet Gallor, site of a hellish Imperial prison-mine complex buried deep within a mountain. Its existence kept quiet even amongst Imperials, it was the perfect place for Jax to hide a temporarily inconvenient witness. In the cramped and chaotic conditions of the Gallor mines, assigned with her fellow prisoners to back-breaking labour, Kemma, blessed - or perhaps cursed - with the fighting spirit of her family became what the miners called a Banin, a leader and defacto spokesperson of the prisoners in the mine. For a year Kemma struggled to keep those around her hopeful and safe, hearing rumours from fellow Liannan prisoners that Cirran had joined the Rebel alliance, and clinging to the thought that her brother would do anything to find her. But after defying prison authorities one too many times, the Colonel in charge of the operation removed her from the general population and had her confined in solitary. Over the next year in the utter darkness at the heart of the mountain her spirit was slowly broken by tortures both mental and physical, as she desperately awaited a rescue that never arrived. It was after this year that Gorta Jax arrived in Gallor to inform Kemma that at great risk to himself he had secured his release, and to inform her of the death of her parents at the hands of her brother - a brother he said who had known exactly where she was for two years, but had done and intended to do nothing about it. Showing her the concocted evidence he had already used to convince his Imperial superiors that it was Cirran rather than himself that had been responsible for her parent's murder, Jax went so far as to personally carry Kemma out of Gallor into the light as the broken, vulnerable and now deeply disillusioned woman cried in heartbreak and gratitude in his arms. Over the following few months, Gorta Jax quite effectively brainwashed Kemma Tyris, moulding her into becoming his consort and fanatically loyal servant. Keeping her close to him at first and nurturing the seeds of hatred and desire for revenge on her brother that he had planted, he made sure that the gratitude she felt towards him and the lies he had told her about Cirran became the twin pillars around which she would rebuild herself. At Jax's urging, Kemma began a training program that within a few short years had transformed her into a skilled covert agent. Utilising her not inconsiderable skills exclusively for the use of her master, Kemma enacted Jax's plans with willingness and for the promise of revenge against the brother who she believes murdered their parents and left her to rot in Gallor.
