Basic information on ACARANS - Chameleon Though they look human they are very different both mentally and physically, to start with Acaran have no lungs. They breathe through gills, though don't mix them up with gills on fish; these are unique to Acarans with no other species to date who has them. The unique vascular structure is placed around the brain and skull making breathing possible. The gills are around their eyes and become visible as thin green skin, almost transparent, which slides frictionless over the eyes if they're out of breath. This layer opens the gills fully, taking in a vast amount of oxygen filtering out all the excess gases. This layer also protects the eyes while underwater so Acarans can breathe while submerged. They have four lenses in their eyes allowing for impeccable vision; each lens can tilt, one even able to bend, giving Acarans binocular vision. This also allows them to judge distances with pinpoint accuracy. Since they have no lungs their chest is filled with three hearts, the largest on the right side which purifies the blood, doing a similar job to the liver by helping to break down any foreign bodies such as alcohol. The second and third heart are huge pumps helping each other, if one is damaged the other takes over almost like a backup. Acarans are stronger than humans from their heritage as a predator, but their home world is filled with predators so they had to adapt to become the best and top of the food chain. They became fast, strong and incredibly agile, able to climb walls, or jump from tree to tree, landing better than an inch perfect each time. The Acarans also has a strange ability: they can 'shift'. This is how they came to be known as Chameleons as they change colours with their surroundings as camouflage. Acarans don't change colour but 'bend' light, becoming totally invisible. |
