Physical Description:
Professional History: Following the events that caused him to leave his homeworld and join the Alliance shortly after the Battle of Yavin, he served with distinction as a pilot and mechanic, distinguishing himself not only as an excellent pilot and occasional tactician in several major engagements with Imperial forces, but also as a go-to man for efficient spacecraft service and repair, in which role he was often forced to make good use of extremely limited time and resources in emergency situations. After leaving the New Republic under dubious circumstances, he has travelled widely, relying on his skills to make him a living on a hand-to-mouth, each day as it comes basis. As a freelance pilot and mechanic he has worked for everyone from smugglers to planetary authorities, avoiding only Imperial employment.
Background: Cirran sometimes did not see much of his parents when growing up, as both were in great demand for their technical expertise at Sienar. However, they were good parent, and tried to make time with their children whenever possible. Sometimes this meant they would take their children into work, where Cirran developed a good basic grasp of engineering as he bonded with his Dad especially during late night sessions at the lab. When he and his elder sister Kemma had outgrown a succession of nannies, and were deemed old enough to be left alone at home, as they were somewhat often, they would secretly sneak out to partake in dangerous swoop bike races with other neighbourhood teenagers, Cirran having used his fledgling technical abilities to override the safety protocol limits placed on the bikes given to them by their parents (for the ostensible use of getting to and from school). When their parents eventually found out about this dangerous activity they were initially shocked, but when Kemma went to great lengths to explain that Cirran was known everywhere as the best rider in the district, his father set him up with a job at Sienar as a low-level test pilot, much to the envy of his sister and objection of his mother. Cirran's job at Sienar was essentially to perfunctorily test minor modifications to in-flight systems of new TIE Fighter versions. However, many of the tests were overseen by his father, so once Cirran had gotten used to the discomfort of squeezing his lanky frame into a TIE cockpit, he was often able to indulge his desire to go hot-dogging, and his father even snuck him onto the combat testing run occasionally for a go against unarmed drones. Over the next 2 years, his skills as a pilot steadily improved. During this time Cirran noticed his parents becoming increasingly uneasy about the political situation on Lianna. He knew that they were concerned that Sienar, and thus Lianna, were steadily aligning themselves with something called 'the Empire', which his father explained was an oppressive and unjust regime. But this at the time meant little to Cirran, who continued to break rules and have close calls on the testing range. His sister had outgrown the swoops by this stage, but nonetheless Cirran stayed close to her, and was cheerfully suspicious towards a series of boyfriends, none of whom could hang on to the beautiful and high-spirited Kemma for very long anyway.
All this was bought to a crashing halt however, when one day an 'Imperial Liaison Officer' was appointed at Sienar. While supposedly this officer, Major Gorta Jax, was there to monitor and report on production at the shipyards, in effect he was handed control of most departments, including Research and Development, where Cirran and his parents worked. Cirran found himself unceremoniously ousted as only 'Imperially approved' pilots were to work on the testing range from now on. Aliens at Sienar, many of them family friends, begin to lose their jobs, and a project manager known widely to be anti-Empire disappeared entirely. When Cirran's parents expressed their outrage at this, and began to question several other decisions themselves, they were placed under house arrest, allowed only to travel to work. When they said they would refuse to work for Sienar under the Imperials, Jax had Kemma incarcerated on trumped up charges, to ensure their co-operation. This was especially distressing to the Tyris family, as Jax had made no secret of his lust towards Kemma. With no choice, Justin and Elyssa were forced to work on the fledgling TIE Interceptor project. Cirran was also barred from leaving the house, and watched as his parents returned from the lab each night after an 18 hour day, exhausted and worried, and being forced to help a regime they hated. There was no word of what had become of Kemma, and they were told they would not be allowed to contact her. Finally one night, Cirran's mother explained that they were going to try and take action by getting some of the technical specs of the new fighter to the Rebel Alliance, and in exchange, the small Rebel spy network on Lianna was to try and find Kemma for them. That night was the last time he saw his parents. The next morning Cirran was awakened by blaster fire, and a strange Rodian burst into his house, having killed the guards stationed outside. He explained that his name was Feena, that he was a member of the underground, and that Cirran's parents and their contact had been caught and executed by Gorta Jax. Before their deaths though, they had managed to destroy much of their research, setting the Interceptor project back months, if not years. Of Kemma there was still no news. Feena's cover had also been blown, and he had come to get Cirran off Lianna. Though extremely reluctant to abandon Kemma, Cirran knew it would be death to stay. Using Feena's concealed ship, they narrowly escaped a cordon thrown up around the planet and headed for the Alliance, slipping through the Imperial blockade erected around Yavin 4 after the Battle of Yavin, and arriving at the base 5 months after the destruction of the Death Star. With nothing else to turn to, and with a hatred for the Empire now personified in a burning desire for revenge on Gorta Jax, Cirran joined the Alliance cause as yet another orphaned by the Empire. He was thrown in at the deep end as a pilot almost immediately in the fighting retreat from Yavin. Manned TIE fighters proved harder to hit than unarmed drones, but with his past experience on the testing ranges, and with Feena looking out for him during the dogfight, he survived his first battle. Over the next couple of years, taken initially under the wing of Feena who grew to be a good friend, he served with distinction as a pilot and backup mechanic in the Rebellion, fighting in several major engagements, and rising through the ranks to Lieutenant Commander . His progress further up the hierarchy though was halted by the recklessness he often showed in battle, and his obvious annoyance with what he regarded as the timidity often displayed by Rebel Command. His skill, courage and the general aptitude for tactical awareness he displayed meant however that he was often placed in positions of responsibility, and he was twice placed in command of small capital ships when nobody with more experience or skill was available. On the second of these occasions, smarting at the recent death of Jandra Dysard, a Corellian girl and fellow pilot who he had formed the beginnings of a romantic relationship with, he ignored a general order to retreat. While the corvette he commanded, the 'Hawk's Cry', did succeed in destroying an already damaged Imperial Dreadnaught class cruiser, it escaped the battle with such extensive damage it was itself forcibly mothballed. Following this incident Cirran was demoted to Lieutenant, and found himself confined strictly to fighter squadron duty. During fighter ops at the Battle of Hoth, he was severely injured when his snowspeeder was shot down. Trapped in the cockpit, Cirran's legs were severely burned. With his gunner dead, he was saved from death once again by Feena, who landing nearby, had pulled him free and got him safely onboard a small transport ship, one of the last to leave. Unfortunately, the limited supply of bacta on board had already been exhausted on other wounded troops, and Cirran nearly died before the ship could get him to a proper medical facility. Because of the delayed treatment he received, both his legs are today still severely covered in burn scars. His long recovery meant that following Hoth, for a while he was forced to concentrate more on the mechanical side of his work, and his technical knowledge expanded beyond quick fixes and jury-rigs when he was posted away from the Command Fleet to the Third rebel Sector force, a small fleet conducting hit-and-fade and reconnaissance in force missions, often deep in Imperial space. As he was increasingly pressed into service as a pilot though, notably when he volunteered to lead a near-suicidal attack staged by a small force of X and B Wings on key Sienar facilities orbiting Lianna, as a diversion to the fleet build-up for the attack on the second Death Star. Although the mission succeeded, more resistance than expected was encountered, and many of the Rebel attackers were destroyed. As the raiders pulled out, Feena, flying as Cirran's wingman had his B-Wing severely damaged, and in order to escape immediate destruction he was forced to make a blind hyperspace jump. Cirran and the few other pilots that survived the raid returned to be decorated for their bravery, but there was no sign of Feena, and he was listed as MIA. Throughout his service with the Alliance, Cirran had continually tried to find new information about both Gorta Jax and his sister. Shortly after his return from the Lianna raid and the news of the second Death Star's destruction, Cirran learned that Jax had been reassigned to a frontline position in the civil war near Mon Calamari, in an Imperial planetary assault regiment with a high casualty rate. Finding himself far from the relative safety of Lianna, he had taken the option of defecting to the Alliance with vital tactical information, in exchange for safe haven. Some of this information had been used to plan the very mission he had just returned from. When Cirran confronted his Alliance superiors with his knowledge of Jax's crimes, he was informed that Jax, or more specifically the intelligence he had, was too important for him to stand trial, and that his immunity was essential for his continued cooperation. Furious, Cirran petitioned further and further up the chain of command for justice, or at least a chance to grill Jax about his sister. But he was always told that Jax was too crucial and even his whereabouts must remain a secret. After a month of dead ends, Cirran, extremely frustrated, snapped, and made up his mind to find Jax himself. Without authorisation, he took a B-Wing from his post on board the Sector Force flagship 'Korath's Rapier', and went AWOL, heading towards the Core Worlds following a rumour of a secret Alliance 'safe-house' installation in operation there. For the past 7 months he has been chasing rumours all over the galaxy, selling his services as a pilot and engineer to those who need them, and continuing to fight the Empire where he can, while avoiding the Alliance, which officially regards him as a deserter. Despite his disillusionment with the system, Cirran maintains an underlying belief in the ideals of the New Republic, and still has friends among his old comrades. Having traded in his stolen B-Wing, he now operates out of a modified YT-2000 freighter that he has dubbed 'Fool's Hope'. Following a job gone bad, Cirran has just learned that Jax had recently panicked at the possibility of Imperial reprisals, and had slipped Alliance custody to fend for himself. After a conversation with a disreputable second hand ship dealer, Cirran has learned that Jax may have headed towards the distant Tae'Raemok system. Out of credits and with a damaged ship, Cirran has nonetheless set out again to follow yet another, probably fruitless, lead... ![]()
