The vast ballroom of the New Republic Embassy glittered with the decor of festivity. Large decorated table's sprawled half empty as the party was still in its early stages. More and more people were arriving. Servant and maitre d' droids bustled about, welcoming guests and leading them to their appropriate tables, seeing to their needs and comforts for the night's entertainments. Multi-colored lights of various wavelengths shone and zapped about like harmless laser bolts, sparkly bursts reflected in a spiral pattern above, washing the glass ceiling that showed the beautiful starry night sky far above. Streamers stretched everywhere like the legs of a giant arachnid. A band played a mellow tune in the background as the party's guests arrived and mingled. Some were friends, acquaintances, friends of friends of friends, and other people were just meeting for the first time.

At the entrance foyer to the ball room, a silver protocol droid chimed the arrival of all guests. Its mechanical voice amplified and echoing across the ballroom for all to hear.

"Ladies and Gentlemen, Consular Amii'a Val'or and Karma Arien," the protocol droid announced at the ladies' arrival.

Theen had been mingling with various diplomats and business leaders when his friend was announced. He bade his apology of leave and made his way to greet his friend and companion in the affairs of their diplomatic duties. His giant form gracefully swept across the expanse of the dance floor from the bar area where he was entertaining some guests to meet up with Amii'a and her friend. "Amii'a my dear, you are absolutely ravishing,." Theen complimented.

Amii'a was wearing a slinky red dress with spaghetti straps; the fabric was fused with Corusca Gem shards. The shards had the appearance of sequins, and the light the gems reflected gave off an attractive sheen of multiple colors.

"And Ms. Arien, a pleasure to see you again, you are equally stunning to this old man's eyes, I assure you," he cooed over the woman.

"Ambassador you are such the gentleman, thank you," Amii'a spoke as she took his hand with both of hers in a friendly and warm gesture. "I see things are progressing well here, everything looks so grand," she complimented as she gazed around. She had attended many such functions as Theen had a flare for parties, though most were not as elaborate as this one. Most were diplomatic dinner parties, a prelude to some treaty or business dealing.

"You look well, Ambassador, and I thank you for your invitation," Karma said, taking Theen's large clawed hand in hers. "I think most people of late will welcome this party. I know I am in the mood to escape my life for an evening," she smiled. Dressed in a stunning blue-grey gown, its design suited her perfectly. Silver jewelry added to the overall effect.

"Of course, of course. Ah, here is someone I would like the both of you to meet..." he said as he motioned for a blue skinned beauty to join him. The woman complied and made her way to the trio.

She was a stunning beauty, tall and lithe with a step of confidence about her. Her light-blue skin reflected some sort of sparkles from a lotion or perfume that accented her gossamer hair. She wore a long form-fitting dress of near see-through white material; silver bracelets glittered upon her forearm.

"Girra, my dear, this is my friend and partner Amii'a Val'or, and our mutual friend Karma Arien," he introduced to her. "Amii'a, Karma, this is Girra Xel-Xux Zillar. Girra has recently arrived in system by way of the Drogen Shipyards."

"Pleased to meet you, Girra." The two ladies greeted one after another, the three taking each other's hands in welcome."

"A pleasure, thank you," Girra returned.

"Girra was once a smuggler for the rebellion, that is how we had met," Theen explained. "She helped to save many lives smuggling operatives and their families off worlds during the war with the Empire, myself included a time or two!"

Girra smiled and bowed her head slightly in recognition.

"There isn't too much that doesn't escape me in these parts. you know, it is my job. I was away on business or I would have contacted you sooner, my dear. Such a pleasure to have you here on Chimaeria," Theen explained.

"Thank you, Ambassador, I'm still trying to fit in in these parts, but you know me, I will make my way."

"Of course, of course. Know, I must go make further rounds, even at a party a dignitary must keep up one's social networking. Please enjoy yourselves and have fun, we will talk more later," Theen bade the three women as he left them to their own devices.

Karma was still busy taking everything in. Trying to remember how long it had been since she'd last attended a party of this magnitude. "This is quite a gala. It's been far too long since I was last at a function like this one."

Amii'a smiled, "Theen knows how to throw a party, Karma. It's in his blood. Events such as these are a regular part of my job as a diplomat. Most can be quite stuffy and torturous, however. But tonight will prove to be very enjoyable and interesting with all those in attendance. Not to mention the entertainment that has been procured for tonight. I hear Ashla Dyani and Maziel are exquisitely enjoyable."

"I've never attended an opera, but I have indeed heard that Dyani is most appealing. I have seen Maziel on holovids before, she is fantastic!" Karma added.

"I heard the Jedi may be in attendance and give a demonstration of their skills," Girra commented. "That would be something. I have never met Jedi before."

***

Theen made his way to the other side of the room as the announcement of new guests had just been declared.

"Ladies and Gentlemen, Kitana Gellar, Garnet Seifer and Gengis Zibel!"

"Ambassador!" Kitana announced as Theen came upon the three new arrivals. "Lovely party you have here. I'm sure things will prove to be interesting as the night progresses. You have quite the list of who-is-who so far here tonight. A pleasure to be in such company here at the New Republic's Embassy, rather than being the subject of New Republic justice," she smarted.

"Indeed, I hope you have adequate security, I can just imagine what will befall this get together once everyone has loosened up at the bar!" Garnet laughed.

"I'm sure everything will be fine, and it wouldn't be the first time in any case. Remind me to tell you the story of a dinner I hosted a year ago, with a Wookiee, a Rodian, and a Neimoidian!" Theen exclaimed. He knew well the past and current events of Gallor, and the roles both Kitana and Garnet were involved of. He was interested in further conversation with Kitana in hopes of improved relations between Gallor and the New Republic, and hopefully some productive allegiances with Tae'Karada in return.

"Lady Seifer," Theen bowed his head in acknowledgement. "I trust business is well?" Theen was slightly weary of this woman, her having been the leader of the Liberation Army and the past events of the Gallorian Civil War.

"Business is grand, thank you, Ambassador," Garnet replied with a wicked smile. "Let me introduce you to Gengis Zibel."

"Greetings, Mr. Gengis Zibel, welcome to the Embassy," Theen welcomed.

"Greetings, thank you. Quite the party you have here...where's the bar?" he asked nonchalantly, more interested in getting drinks than small talk with some diplomat.

"Right that way, the Elomin Ale is always a good choice," Theen directed and suggested. "I must attend to other guests, but we will get together soon. In the mean time you should join up with Amii'a and her friends over their," Theen said as he pointed to where Amii'a, Karma and Girra were talking over their own drinks. With that he bade them welcome and made his way to mingle among others.

Gengis went to get her drink, while Garnet and Kitana went to encounter Amii'a, Karma and Girra, but it was visible that still resided somewhat hostilities between Garnet and Kitana, probably that both of them were enemies during the Gallorian Civil War. Garnet thought that Kitana only joined the rebels since her father was the Leader of the rebels. On the other hand Kitana thought that Garnet was stealing from the Gallorian's, but both of them tried to look like they were once friends and still were, but the people that could read body language saw that was not possible.

"Hello there!" Kitana spoke politely as possible. "I'm Kitana Gellar Representative of Gallor in Tae'Karada." Kitana tried to smile with a little bow. "This is Garnet Seifer..."

"Business woman, I'm one of the beneficiaries of Brutball," Garnet said with smile. "There had been some delays for the preparations, but the inauguration is going to happen soon enough."

Amii'a nodded in acknowledgement. Though she had never met Garnet or Kitana before, she was well aware of who they were. Amii'a's involvement with Chimaerian politics had so far been restricted to the diplomatic interests between Tae'Karada and the New Republic presence, but that never stopped her from acquiring information on other matters of state that she was not a part of. She thought it as strange bed-fellows, in respect to Kitana and Garnet's current association here at the embassy. However, such were things in the events of diplomacy and business. She only hoped that there wouldn't be any indiscretions between the two this night.

"Greetings, Representative Gellar, and to you Garnet Seifer. Brutball should prove to be quite the entertainment endeavor," Amii'a said to the two women as Karma and Girra both nodded in acknowledgement of the two guests. The women continued with some small talk as the ballroom began to fill with more guests, and the band's music began to liven up as the evening began to progress.

Karma had managed to procure herself a drink. It was taking some time to adjust back to the life of a diplomat. She'd only been a child when Oceana was annihilated by the Empire. But this was her life now, parties and talking to other diplomats. One day maybe she would be hosting her own.

"It is a relief to know that life goes on."

Amii'a nodded as she sipped from her ample glass which held a frozen concoction known as a Core Freeze. Amii'a had developed a fondness for the drink during a diplomatic affair with Theen on Coruscant a year before. The Core Freeze was made of various dark liquors mixed in shaved ice of various luminescent colors that shimmered. It was sweet and aromatic, and quite strong.

"I know the feeling well. I must say this is the first party in a long time that I wasn't actually working. Usually my guard is up and I have a megillion things of importance running through my mind. Not tonight though," she smiled. "What did you order, Karma? It looks tasty!"

Karma smiled. "I'm not exactly sure of its name but I was told it first originated on Alderaan. It's as close to a native concoction my mother used to enjoy."

Girra took a closer look and took in the sense of the drink, although she had spent a good part of her life on Alderaan she wasn't aware of the drink.

"Well, I'm not much for fancy drinks. Give me something straight up any night!" she laughed as she took a long swig of her Corellian brew. "Especially after the events of late. I suppose I should feel lucky to be able to be here in such company considering what I have been through since arriving in system."

***

"The reason I went after this particular item on the menu was more for sentimental reasons than anything else," Karma replied, then turned her gaze back to Girra as she heard the comment. "You aren't the only one. Only recently has it been safe enough for me to risk taking on the diplomatic role it was assumed I would one day take on."

Girra took another drink from her glass, taking in her surroundings; she thought to herself how everyone here probably had such stories and sentiments, lives turned inside out from what they should have been. But that was what the galaxy was like and it seemed to her only the strong survived, or the unbelievably lucky. She thought it was all intriguing, these diplomats and business elite-types, those who shaped the future of life in this particular corner of the galaxy. Girra didn't know what her life would have been like had she not been stricken with her childhood illness. In all probability she would have been whisked away with so many others of her kind by the hand of Tarkin. Of course had she not been healed from her stasis on Alderaan, she may well have perished in the destruction of Alderaan. Tarkin... she thought with venom.

Girra wasn't unhappy with her life. She loved her ship, loved to fly...but it was all tantamount to one thing, finding her long lost brother, or at least finding out about him. Orthan was all she really had left, if she even still had him...

"How so?" Girra asked Karma.

***

"I was but a child when the Empire unleashed its wrath on Oceana. If there's one thing I'll never forget it's the sight of those TIE fighters. Fate had other plans than ending my life that day. Somehow I was saved. After that things spiraled downhill until my parents turned to the dark side."

Girra raised her brow. "The dark side? Your parents were Jedi?" Girra was not sure what to think. She didn't want to pry, but the comment was made and freely so. If it was something Karma didn't wish to speak she wouldn't have said as much. Girra was willing to leave well enough alone, but she waited for Karma's response; she would be the one to continue the conversation to one direction or the other, and Girra would respect that.

"Yes they were Jedi," Karma replied. "I however didn't end up with their gift of the Force. It allows me to concentrate on my full time job of building Oceana's successor. Now you have a very good idea of why I was in hiding for so many years."

Amii'a knew well the burden Karma held, in respect to her relationship with her parents. She thought of them for a brief moment, though they were not Jedi, fallen from grace, Amii'a had fallen from theirs. They believed in the legitimacy of the Empire, and when Amii'a joined the Rebellion, she was as good as dead to them.

That is very much enough, Amii'a! she scolded herself. This night will not be ruined with such thoughts...what's done is done. After all, she had made a very comfortable life for herself in the wake of the very Empire that came between her and her parents. She was in such a position to change the course of history for Tae'Karada, in the wake of the Empire's demise.

"The Empire has taken much, and we have given greatly to see its downfall and to see to the reconstruction of our homes and lives." Amii'a stated to both Karma, Girra and Kitana as she had returned from the bar. "Our lives may have drastically changed from what they would have been had it not been for the events of the past which have lead us to our stations today. However, I believe in each of our own ways we have overcome where many would have failed. We hold power over our destiny, where the Empire and all those who were affected by it had power over our past. True it has been paramount to our current course in history, but the Empire is no more, my friends. This is our time, this is our life, and we will shape the future from the ashes of the past."

Girra raised her glass in salute. "To new friendships, may our futures unfold with the greatest of good fortunes."

The women all raised their glasses in cheer.

"A Dance to Remember, Part 1"

Every aspect of the Embassy's ballroom shouted glamour and luxury, and if attendance hadn't been restricted only to Tae'Karada's elite, it was apparent anyone else would feel too ill-matched with the grandeur to attempt an entrance.

Greeted at the towering, ornately carved doors by attendants in livery of crisp white tunic with sleeve-trim of gold scrollwork, and straight-legged crimson pants over polished black boots, Raeila Selrid balked when they had accepted Dargus' invitation. As he strode forward over the threshold, she stood firm and gaped at the interior. A high, domed ceiling of transparisteel overlooked them all, providing effortless decor as the inky sky played backdrop to glittering stars; the white, marbled floor seemed to capture some of their sparkle and absolutely gleamed with enough sheen to reflect the richly coloured fabrics worn by each guest in a mosaic of dancing reds and blues and golds. Chandeliers of dripping diamond stretched down to nearly touch the tallest head, yet they emitted a light so soft Raeila wasn't certain if she was looking upon a hazy dream.

Music drifted among the mingling guests, with ambient conversation and lyrical laughter as perfect accompaniment. And the smells.... Roasted fowl was the most prominent of them, but her nose, trained by the culinary delights Orn had offered at the Temple, also detected freshly baked breads, succulent fruits, and cakes that earned a growl of approval from her stomach. Compared to Jadda's palace, though, anything smelled just as wonderful as this.

At the tug on her arm, Raeila's focus snapped back to Dargus, who was still in the doorway, watching her inquisitively. She'd always fancied attending such extravagant parties, but now she felt the outsider. Only a day ago she was chained to a Hutt's throne and attending him in his bed. Now, she was about to join Tae'Karada's elite at one of the planet's most exclusive events...and she couldn't help feeling out of place. Dargus had, of course, attired her in a gown appropriate for such a function, but she wouldn't be able to fool anyone the moment she opened her mouth.

Stubbornly, she shook her head. "I can't," she whispered.

Dargus took her hand in his and smiled gently. "You'll be fine," he said. "You look fabulous, Raeila. That dress...it is you. You leave me speechless. Come on, it'll be fine. Just be you." Anyone who had known Dargus before would not know him now. He wore all black, made of the finest fabrics in the latest style. Trousers tucked into boots of the finest leather, shining to where anyone looking close enough would see their own face reflected. The double-breasted coat came to mid-thigh, silver scrollwork adorned the high collar and cuffs. "And, after this night, you'll be able to go back home, to the Jedi Temple."

"The Temple...." Raeila sighed, and this seemed to relax her entirely. Giving his hand a squeeze, she smiled at Dargus and took her first step into the ballroom. She still felt awkward walking in, wondering who would peg her as the imposter she was. The dress fit wonderfully, but Raeila knew she didn't. However, she was still glad to wear it.

Whereas she had opted for something simpler in design while shopping with Dargus, he had insisted on the dress she now modelled. It was of the finest ivory satin with gold stitching running through it, and shimmered with each slippered step she took. Her long, hanging sleeves fell well past her wrists, and upon complaint of their length Dargus had assured her they matched the overall flow of the long gown. She broached no further argument about it once Dargus introduced her to the coruscating diamond necklace he'd bought to adorn her neck. It decorated her otherwise bare chest and its dangling pendant nearly disappeared in the valley of her breasts shown off by the scooped neckline.

To match the necklace, Dargus purchased a matching chain girdle studded with the same gems that jangled when her hips swayed. It was nowhere near the distressing sound of her leash rustling against the ground as Jadda forced her to kneel at his side, but it was enough to transport her back to his dank throne room. She clasped Dargus' hand tighter, and her smile faltered only slightly. Focusing on her dress's hem whispering against the floor helped to banish the memories, as did the realization that everyone they passed had stopped to stare at them. Raeila frowned. "What's wrong with us?" she whispered.

"There is nothing wrong," Dargus whispered back. "They look, and are awed. Were these still the days of the High Prince, we would be ejected from the party because you would have clearly outshone the High Princess herself."

Rae smiled skeptically. "I still can't figure out why you're being so nice to me. But," she added, "I won't complain."

Dargus chuckled softly. "I am being nice to you because you deserve to have someone being nice to you," he said. "And, I'm trying to turn over a new leaf, as it were. Come, would you care for a drink?"

"Sure," she answered softly. "I'm a little thirsty...and hungry. Do you think we can eat before we mingle?"

"Of course," Dargus said. "Come, there's a table over here." He led her gracefully across the floor and between varied guests. The table was laid out extravagantly and it appeared to hold something for every taste. With a flourish, Dargus gestured toward the bounty and kissed Raeila's hand. "Anything you desire is yours."

She smirked. "It's not as if you're paying, Dargus...for the food, at least." Gray eyes twinkling with mirth, Raeila shook back her sleeves and snatched up plate and fork. With the tines of her utensil, she stabbed at a baked jemjara tuber with a glistening sweet-hot glaze. Raeila bit into its tip and giggled as the coating dribbled down her chin.

Dargus picked up a square of linen and dabbed at Raeila's chin. "I know we've just arrived, but are you enjoying yourself?"

Chewing thoughtfully, Raeila passed her gaze over the scattering of revelers standing and conversing, and lingered a moment on those twirling on the dance floor. "Yes," she whispered wistfully, "I'm having a great time."

"Good," Dargus said as he helped fill plates for both of them, adding anything to Rae's plate that seemed to light up her eyes. "When we've finished eating, would you care for a dance?"

She reached past Dargus to spear a plump, juicy sausage and answered frankly, "Isn't that what I'm here for? To be shown off?"

"No," Dargus said, "you're here to enjoy yourself, and to have a taste of the high life here in New Plouton. If you don't wish to dance, you don't have to. I just want you to enjoy yourself here tonight. You're my date for the evening, but you are still yourself. You do not have to do anything you don't wish to."

Dargus' pity-inspiring speech did just that in Rae, and brought a touch of guilt with it. "Alright," she relented with an apologetic smile. "We can dance. I-I'm not very good at this sort...but it'll be fun."

"I know a few steps," Dargus said. "Come on; there's a bench over there where we might be able to eat our feast."

Hooking her arm around Dargus', Raeila was steered away from the banquet tables and directly into the path of a very tall, very lanky alien in flowing robes. Raeila hiccupped in surprise and halted before they could connect. "Pardon me," she murmured by way of apology.

Theen looked down upon the two newly arrived guests. He gave a sincere smile of welcome and offered his large hand in greeting.

"Welcome to the New Republic Embassy, I am Ambassador Theen Fida," he said. "I trust the two of you are enjoying yourselves, yes?"

Dargus looked to Raeila then back to Theen. He smiled, bowed slightly, and took the offered hand. "I think we're enjoying ourselves quite a bit, actually," he said. "You throw a very impressive party."

Theen grasped Dargus' hand in welcome. "My thanks, but it is only as impressive as those who attend, yes?" Theen bowed to the woman before him. "My Lady, you appear extravagant this evening. Welcome to the Embassy," Theen greeted more elaborately, sweeping his arms around in offering of the ballroom to his guests. "I hope that everything has been and will continue to be to your pleasure this evening. Our entertainment should prove to be most enjoyable." Theen then adressed the woman. "Please make yourself at home here, and if there is anything, anything I can do for you, all you need to do is ask."

"Thank you," Raeila answered demurely. She performed an awkward curtsey for the alien, then surreptitiously moved in closer to Dargus.

Dargus slipped a protective arm around Raeila and smiled to Theen. "Thank you very much for this evening," he said. "I'm certain it will not soon be forgotten by Tae'Karadan society. The best parties are always well-remembered."

From behind Theen two figures emerged, each to either side of the large Anx. To his left stood a ruggedly handsome man in his later mid-thirties, tall, dark and handsome. He was dressed in a nice black suit with a white shirt underneath, visible through the v-neck design of his collar. To Theen's right emerged a beautiful woman with short auburn hair, wearing a dressy suit of feminine design. Dargus raised an eyebrow as he noted the two's very obvious accesories adorned beneath the pair's dress jackets, cautiosly made visible by the man and woman. Both looked upon Dargus with smug smiles.

"Ah, may I introduce Captains Brental and Rhayne," Theen introduced.

The pair nodded as they secured their stance in a semi circle about the trio of Theen, Dargus, and Raeila.

"Captians Brental and Rhayne are heading up the newly formed Special Invistigations Unit of New Plouton's Morality Guard," Theen explained. "Long has an embassy been considered a place of refuge and immunity of course, and all here are most welcome. However, my embassy will not be a shelter for those of...lesser honor and scruples. Do conduct yourself, Mr. Kandran, in a manner befitting those worthy of my hospitality."

Dargus raised an eyebrow as he regarded the Anx ambassador. "Have I offended you in some way, Ambassador?" he asked. "I was not aware of acting in any manner that would deem myself unworthy of any hospitality here. Perhaps you may have heard stories of my past, but I assure you those are now just stories in the past."

Theen studied the man for a moment. "Perhaps. After all, you are here, aren't you, Mr. Kandran, by benefit of the doubt. I hope it will not be regretful."

"It won't," Raeila piped up, her look one of resentment. "All you know of him is what you've heard. You don't know him, so don't you dare judge him wrongly." As an afterthought, she added politely, "Sir."

"My Lady," Theen said with a bow. "Were I such the judge and jury, Mr. Kandran would not be here this evening. I have not risen to my position and stature by foolishness or dumb luck, I assure you. In the game of diplomatic affairs one must know what cards to play, hold, and bluff." He then directed towards Dargus, "True, sir, you have quite the reputation, that may...or may not be but stories in the past."

Theen waved off the two captains. They nodded in obedience.

"I only mean to make clear that this evening, and my guests, shall not be subjected to any indiscretions. It will not be allowed, I assure you. I'm sure you understand my caution, and in my position, oftentimes alliances are made with the benefit of the doubt. This evening is host to many people of just as many backgrounds and current endeavors. I only hope it will prove to be most lucrative between all parties, in the interest of the common good. Please, take no further offense."

Dargus smiled and offered a bow. "No offense taken, Ambassador," he said.

Theen nodded his head in acknowledgment and excused himself from the company of Dargus and Raeila. Grimble! Theen thought to himself as he made way for the entry to greet a newly arrived guest. Theen had maintained his composure, normally an easy task, one he had mastered throughout the years of diplomatic service. It served no good purpose to allow outward emotions to give away one's feelings, however his crests were flaring as he turned from the two. When the Jedi arrive, perhaps then we shall see what is but 'stories in the past', Theen thought as he cleared his head and took under control his emotions.

Theen had many contacts throughout Tae'Karada, throughout the entire Outer Rim for that matter. His contacts were people of all races and stations in life, some were even less desireable characters, yet they served a purpose. During his days as a cell leader for the Rebellion he dealt with all manner of people for the good of the fight against the Empire. All that really mattered was the eventual outcome to Theen. All people had their purpose in this life, he thought. Some just didn't know their purpose, but Theen had his ways of making the most out of even the lowliest of the low, those whose lives were wasted to no good end, but with money, favors, information, Theen saw to it that they served the better good in one way, shape or form. This Dargus, however, was another story all together.

Quistis moved through the crowd and of course some people looked at her, but she didn't care what it said, she approached the small group. "Hello, I'm Quistis Knox, representative of Brath'Nam Inter-Galactic Guild."

Amii'a lent her hand in welcome. "Welcome, Quistis, I am Amii'a Val'or, Consular of Tae'Karada to the New Republic." Amii'a introduced the small group that she had been interacting with. "This is Karma Arien of Oceana, Kitana Gellar of Gallor, and my friend Girra Xel-Xux Zillar." Amii'a smiled politely, showing no hint of her wonderment as to this Quistis' physical features.

"It's a pleasure to make your acquaintance," Karma replied as she extended a hand to Quistis.

Amii'a bowed in greeting. "Greetings, Quistis Knox, welcome to the New Republic's Embassy."

Girra offered her hand in welcome, "Greetings, I am Girra. I am going to get another drink anyone care for anything?"

"Pleased to meet you, Karma, Amii'a, Girra and it is good to see you again, Kitana!" She then looked to Girra with a smile. "I'm fine thanks."

***

Kitana smiled. "Yes it is great to see you again. Once more I must apologize and express the thanks of all Gallorians to the matter on the prison being resolved."

"It was nothing, Kitana. I think everybody would do what I did. Sure I almost died, but do not worry about that, Kitana." Quistis moved her hair, revealing a small silvery plate covering the right side of her face.

Girra nodded and made her way to the bar for another drink.

"What of the prison?" Amii'a asked at the comment made. She certainly looks as if she was in the thick of things, she thought to herself at the appearance of Quistis.

"Well I found a prison on Gallor run by some warlord or something. Me and my team found it by mistake, but trying to gather info, I was caught and for that I was punished, and severely punished for helping fellow prisoners. Every piece of my skin was ripped from my body..." Quistis said. She touched the silver plate of her face.

Amii'a raised her brow in shock, she didn't know what to say. How awful... she thought to herself.

Changing the subject, she asked about B.I.G.

"So tell me, Quistis, about this Guild."

Quistis looked to Amii'a. "Well, it is not exactly a guild, but more like a group of enterprises that joined together. We have our HQ on Corellia and we are now expanding to the Tae'Remok System. We are going to open our doors next week. Also, if I'm correct we just bought an old Med Center on Yesopol District. We are now refurbishing it to be a Center of Medicine of New Plouton. Of course we will open small med centers on any other districts, but on Yesopol it's going to be the largest one."

"I see, very nice," Amii'a said. "I see we have some common interests. Ambassador Theen and I have been doing much work these past few years in helping to rebuild New Plouton. This Yalyssar District was completely destroyed, but rebuilt in great part by the New Republic. Now it is a center for diplomatic business and studies. We have been working diligently to bring together many business leaders and diplomats into a private League of Outer Rim Worlds," Amii'a informed. "I'm sure you know of the Alliance of Outer Rim Worlds, yes?" she asked. "The League is intended to be an instrumental part of the Alliance, run by important and influential people of the private sector, rather than a confederacy of those who govern the world of the Outer Rim. It is our belief that the people of this galaxy ought to have more control of their destiny, and that they can help to do more for themselves in the private sector, rather than relying solely on their governments. It is two-way beneficial, Quistis. By creating the means for the public to do more for themselves, it not only frees up the higher governments to deal with galactic affairs, but installs a system of checks and balances, so that power and influence does not rest solely on those who are at the top of government."

"I see. You know if you're creating a league of Outer Rim worlds, you're probably thinking to form some kind of force to protect the planets on that league." Quistis smiled. "My boss, Miss Akesha. She is president of the Ix Technology. We own 1/10 of the corellian shipyards, which can be not much, but we are fabricating the first fighters for the New Republic. Also we are thinking of buying some shipyards to start production of our capital ships. If you want we can make a sort of deal; we can provide this league brand new ships."

"I'm sure that in further talks we could arrange mutual benefits under the League. The League's foremost goal is business and diplomatic cooperation within the Outer Rim, to better serve the people of the Outer Rim, and to promote a more stable and lucrative economy throughout the Outer Rim," Amii'a explained. "I'm sure that B.I.G. would become a great addition to the League, and be most profitable for all parties."

The luxurious white hard-top speeder came to a full stop and the door opened vertically. Out came Alicia, fashionably dressed in a long dark red coloured long kai-kai dress, her hair carefully braided in many thin tails adorned with pearls. With her was her brother, Dumah, who came in a hand tailored black suit with a scarlet silk shirt.

They entered the Winter Gala salon and were introduced by the droid that gave the announcements. Alicia went to felicitate the Ambassador and then she saw someone she was somewhat hoping to see. She made her way over along with her brother.

"Good evening," she said cordially. "I take it you are Zale Tregat?"

Zale turned at the sound of his name and smiled to the speaker. "That's correct," he said. "Zale Tregat, Antorial Industries." He indicated the woman at his side, his eyes lighting as he looked upon her. "This is my wife, Kaysa Zenarr-Tregat. It is a pleasure to meet you, Ms. ..."

"Gardan. Alicia Ashantee Gardan," she replied. "And my brother, Dumah," she added as she motioned for the man next to her, who was taking a drink from one of the passing waiters who carried the trays. Alicia gave a small nod and smiled. "I hear you were once one of the most prominent businessmen in all of New Plouton and yet it seems your business has suffered somewhat a downfall."

"Come now, sister... Don't be too direct!" Dumah said with a grin. "You must apologise for her being so very direct, but I haven't known her to be otherwise ever!" He laughed.

"I don't think everyone enjoys having their time wasted for no reason," Alicia told her brother. "And I was curious as to Mr. Tregat's business."

"Ahh... So, what do you deal in, Mr. Tregat?" Dumah asked.

Zale's eyes had narrowed and he regarded both Alicia and her brother with obvious suspicion. "You must be working from old numbers," he said. "Despite the recent assassination attempt against me, our numbers are climbing again. Recent personal setbacks were the cause for any fall on Antorial's part. As to what we deal in, the answer is whatever needs to be dealt in. Antorial has ties into manufacturing, production, and shipping in many of the major markets. We're listed within the top five of most of the fields in which we delve, and those numbers are climbing as well." He took a breath and let it out. "And, I don't mind direct." His gaze shifted to Alicia. "Rudeness, however, is never tolerable."

"Ahh yes... No doubt a setback from the recent civil war here in Tae'Karada, I'm sure!" Dumah smiled as he raised his glass. "Let's hope that all businesses do prosper more and more!"

"Mr. Tregat, I feel I must apologise. I wasn't very cordial... And, after all, we are all here to enjoy ourselves," Alicia nodded. "However, I am curious as to your business, as I might be interested in hiring some of your services, such as shipment. But, I never deal with people who aren't serious about their work, so I was... how can you put it... checking you out."

"Actually, that part about being serious isn't totally true as she just underwent one deal with me!" Dumah pointed out. "And I'm all fun mixed with work, or so my sister tells me!"

"Well, if you'd like more detailed information about what Antorial does, perhaps it would be best to schedule a meeting. Much of our shipping is currently being handled through one of our subsidiary companies." He flashed a smile in Kaysa's direction. "Zenarr Inc. is one of the fastest growing shipping interests on the planet and in this region. Though, recent events have required us to curtail some of our shipping activities. Now that the region is stabilizing once more, business is returning to normal."

"And I'm not dead," Kaysa put in, "so Zenarr Inc.'s not going anywhere either."

"In that case, Mrs. Tregat, I shall be looking forward to having a meeting with you and see just how much you have to offer. If you deliver a better deal than the one I have at this point, then you might be getting a large deal for your company," Alicia smiled.

"I think that's enough business talk," Dumah said as he took a sip of his drink. "Tell me, Mr. and Mrs. Tregat, are you into clubbing? If you are, then allow me to invite you to the re-opening of Trancemania. We recently bought the club and made a few improvements. Here are two invitations with full access to the VIP lounge!" he smiled as he handed over a couple of invitations.

"We don't have a chance to get out much now with the baby still on the way," Zale said. "But, I'm certain that if we don't use them after the birth, Maeren would be more than happy to make use of them." He glanced at Kaysa. "Though, I really don't see Keeve going out and dancing."

"Well, you're both welcome at any time in our club," Alicia smiled. "And congratulations on your child. Do you know whether it's a boy or a girl yet?" she asked.

"Haven't bothered to ask," Kaysa replied amiably, and directed a tender glance in Zale's direction. "We want to be surprised."

Zale grinned at Kaysa, and in his expression the love he felt for her was vibrant and clear. "It shouldn't be too much longer before we find out. And, probably not much longer after that before Merrick's teaching him or her how to sing."

"Well, in any case, I'm sure the child will be a very beautiful one, considering the parents..." Alicia told them.

"Surely!" Dumah agreed.

Alicia then saw Oot Kovan. She wanted to talk to her as well. She smiled at Zale and Kaysa. "If you'll excuse me for a while..." she excused herself. "It was nice to meet you both, and I hope to see you soon."

"It was nice to meet you as well," Zale said with a smile.

Alicia approached Oot Kovan, followed by her brother who came right behind her. "Miss Kovan. I was hoping to see you here!" Alicia smiled. "May I introduce my brother, Dumah."

"A pleasure to meet you, Miss Kovan," Dumah said as he bowed and kissed her hand gently. "My sister told me you were a fierce business woman, but she forgot to mention your beauty..." he smiled.

"A silvered tongue," Oot answered with a smile. "It is a pleasure to meet you as well, Dumah. So, how are you both enjoying the party?"

"It is quite lovely," Alicia smiled. "Which reminds me of asking whether you're content with our corporation rebuildings? We have tried to cope our best with your engineers and architects to stick to the main plans."

"Personally, I like very much the Yuarteira District, with its green areas and all!" Dumah smiled. "But this Yalyssar District is quite good too."

"I'm very happy with all of the districts," Oot answered with a smile. "When Regent Zaneth returns, I may even relocate to New Plouton. Arcadia is nice, but there's just something special about New Plouton."

"I'm sure there is..." Dumah smiled.

"So, I take it you are content?" Alicia asked.

"Oh yes," Oot affirmed with a nod. "I'm quite pleased with all of the rebuilding."

"Then I am content as well," Alicia smiled. "And we are also eager to work on Arcadia, now that most of New Plouton is rebuilt," she added.

"And if you decide to relocate yourself in New Plouton you must let me treat you to a fine place. I have just bought a building in Yuarteira, near the river. It is most lovely, and the top floors have the best view!" Dumah grinned.

Oot gave him a smile. "That sounds like a very nice offer," she said. "I may have to take you up on it."

"Please do!" Dumah winked. "I would not have it any other way. Not with such an important and pretty lady such as yourself, anyway..." he laughed.

Oot laughed. "Well, I believe that is settled then," she said. "Perhaps we can schedule a time for you to show me this building of yours."

"I would be most honoured, my lady," Dumah bowed.

"I'm sure you'll like it very much. We have deals with Industrial Automaton and Cybot Galactica for providing house droids for maintenance and general house work in our most prestigious buildings," Alicia told Oot. "It is really the very top state. I myself live there, when I'm here in New Plouton and not travelling."

"Nothing better than firsthand accounts of quality," Oot said with a grin. "I look forward to stopping by. And, I'm certain I'll want a tour." She gave Dumah an appraising look. "That is, if you're up for giving me one."

"I would be most honoured. And if there's anything at all I can ever do for you, my lady, please, just let me know," he said with a smile while bowing his head ever so slightly.

Alicia nodded and smiled. "And I wouldn't consider you paying for one of the luxury apartments. Not after you being so kind as to grant us the construction deal for New Plouton!" Alicia smiled. "Think on it as a bonus..."

"As delighted as that sounds," Oot said with a smile, "I couldn't. Thank you very much for the offer, but I must insist on paying for my apartment."

"A discount on the price then..." Alicia insisted.

"Indeed. I could never abide having such a pretty lady pay full price!" Dumah nodded. "But, if I may be allowed a little bit of indiscretion, are you here by yourself?"

Oot gave him an alluring smile. "Well, my bodyguard accompanied me," she said. "But, to answer your question, I am here by myself."

"Well then, may I steal some of your time for a dance perhaps?" Dumah smiled.

"I believe that will be acceptable," Oot said with a sly smile. "It's been some time since I've had the opportunity to dance."

"Well in that case, excuse us, sis!" Dumah grinned as he took Oot's hand gently. "Shall we?"

Alicia smiled and bowed gently to Oot Kovan before she let her brother walk her to the dance floor. She then made her way to the bar where she had seen some more people to talk to.

Theen had left Quistis Knox to mingle and make herself comfortable at the party he was hosting at the Embassy. Everything seemed to be going quite well, Theen had thought. Already there were many guests, business leaders, politicians, social elite, and of course some shadier members whose ethics left something to be desired, he thought. It was to be expected of course. Theen knew this.

Theen walked over to a small group of people who were in conversation. There were three, a Cerean, an Arkanian and an Adarian. Theen knew them from previous and current business manners; he had invited them to help close a venture he was working on for a friend of his back on Coruscant.

"Greetings, Denka, Sulan, So Ti-Dal, how are things so far this evening?" Theen asked his guests.

"Ahh, Ambassador Fida, thank you, all is well, splendid event you have here," the Adarian replied. His name was Denka, and he was a diplomat for Adari, specialising in economics for his home world. The Adarian was only about five feet tall, but his elongated head stretched his height another foot. He had dull light brown colored skin, a flat face, and a hole in the bone of his head that stretched up from his forehead, as all Adarians had.

"Ambassador, thank you, all is well," the Arkanian replied next. She was Sulan Kelpr, an Arkanian business woman, CEO of Arco Expeditions, an exploratory corporation specialising in deep space probes and explorations out past known space. Sulan was an attractive Arkanian in her later years. She had long white hair with increasing streaks of various shades of grey. Like all Arkanians, Sulan had pupilless eyes which gave her face an almost blank-like expression.

The third member of the group, a Cerean, bowed to Theen. "My thanks, Ambassador, a pleasure to be here." His name was So Ti-Dal, and he too was a business man, CEO of Cerisi Explorations, a partner corporation to Arco in the explorations of unknown space. The Cerean man was tall and well built, he had a dark goatee, but no hair on his head. His cranium stretched out rather bumpy-ish from his forehead, ending in a round tip.

"Very good, I am pleased," Theen answered his guests. It was only about a week ago that he met the three in a meeting, and procured a business deal to bring billions of revenue into the Tae'Remok system, and especially Tae'Karada itself. The three members were only a small part of a larger contingent of business and diplomatic leaders who were joining together into an alliance for economic and political growth and stability in the region. The fledgling New Republic was hard pressed in many areas as it took over governorship of the galaxy from decades of Imperial subjugation. The continual fight against the Imperial Remnant, and the struggle to maintain law and order was taxing on the young government. Theen was on a committee for promoting greater and more stable business and diplomatic ties between different worlds, to help procure a stronger galactic economy through the cooperative efforts of various inter-galactic corporations and system leaders. Reconstruction, stability and trade were at the top of the committee's priority list.

Theen had procured deals with the three guests to bring in more business to Tae'Karada and the Tae'Remok system, as well as offering expansion opportunities and lucrative contracts to the New Republic for those members, and many others. One of the most notable deals were that of the creation of a new shipyard facility in the Tae'Remok system for the building of new capital ships and fighters for the New Republic. Among the other business partners were Intercom, maker of the X-Wings, Corellian Engineering Corporation known for its manufacture of the YT line of freighters, the older Republic Cruisers, and blockade runners, as well as a sister company that was in the works between several corporations and New Plouton's own Karadan Research and Development Corp., a company that specialised in starship design and systems design. Larger more notable ship yards and corporations like Kuat were too close to the Core, and always an object of battle between the Empire and the New Republic. The New Republic needed other locations that could be more secure, and away from the main areas of conflict.

"Well, I don't want to disturb you all, please enjoy yourselves and we can meet again later," Theen said to his guests.

The three thanked him and Theen continued on his way to check with his guests, when Tessyn, Theen's Ayrou event coordinator stopped him.

"Ambassador, I trust everything is in order, yes?" the feathery headed Tessyn asked.

"Yes, my friend, splendid, everything is well. All is set for our entertainment, yes?"

"Oh yes, Ambassador, everything is going as planned, no worries. I must say this has been a pleasure, and I am quite pleased."

"As you should be, Ayrou, that is why you work for me!" Theen laughed. "You are without a doubt the best. My thanks as always."

Tessyn bowed in thanks, and Theen excused himself as he saw Garnet Seifer and Gengis Zibel at the bar. Amii'a was still with Girra, Kitana and Karma as the newly arrived Quistis had also joined their little group. He decided to join Garnet and Zibel at the bar.

Theen had made some rounds about the gala, visiting with powerful business leaders, local politicians and offworld diplomats. After having greeted Quistis Knox of B.I.G. Theen found his way back towards Garnet Seifer and Gengis Zibel, not far from where Amii'a, Kitana, Karma and the recent addition, Quistis, were in conversation.

"Hello again, Miss Seifer and Mr. Zibel, I trust you are making yourselves welcome here this evening? How is everything?" Theen asked his guests.

"Hello, Ambassador." Gengis smiled in reply to Theen. "We were simply discussing some business about Brutball."

"Aghh yes, Brutball. I am a strong patron of the sports and arts you know. I hope to attend its inauguration," Theen commented. "So tell me, Gengis, how are things with your casino? I am not one for gambling, for creds that is, although of course I gamble much, in a diplomatic sort of way!" Theen huffed a laugh.

Gengis laughed. "It's doing fine Ambassador. We have a violent sport in my casino, that you can bet who is going to win, but you come and watch Chimaerian Gladiators of Sybilla, also known as CGS. The gladiators fight against the other and the last one standing wins."

"I just may, yes," Theen replied. He then turned his focus towards Garnet. "So now you are a business woman, quite a change from the Liberation Army, yes?"

Garnet smiled. "You have done your homework. Yes it is. I think during my time waiting for my trial I had quite some time to think about what I wanted to do, since most of my army was lost. Now I am a business woman. I think my eyes have seen war enough. Now I use my money from what I gained during the Liberation Army for investing in Brutball."

"Interesting. It seems these are the days for turnabouts," Theen stated. "I always commend those who can make changes in their lives for the better. I may just invest in this Brutball, it sounds very interesting. An associate of mine is also working towards a sports endeavor, which may prove to be quite lucrative and entertaining. From what I hear, it is like Pod Racing, but done in space with ships, from freighter classes to star fighters. It will have several different rounds dealing with the ships and the pilots' capabilities. It will be quite harrowing, but very entertaining," Theen informed. "I am an avid patron of sports and the arts, I believe that such entertainment offers so much to culture and the social well being of the people. It gets their minds off their troubles, and generates role models, and of course creates jobs and opens up many marketing revenues to help the economy."

"You are correct, Ambassador," Garnet said with smile.

"Yes, I'm also investing in Brutball, as well. Many people will be eager to find out when the tickets for the opening game will be available."

"We estimate that on the first day we are probably selling all tickets." Garnet smiled as she sipped a little of her drink.

"I'm sure that the event will sell out indeed," Theen commented. Changing the subject somewhat Theen asked, "So what other endeavors do you find yourselves in, if I may ask? I find it rather odd that one would simply go from the running of the L.A. to entertainment investments."

"Well, myself," Gengis started, "I was one of the admirals of Garnet, but the Liberation Army was inserted in Gallor forces once Garnet became empress, but during the fight to liberate Tae'Karada I had a nervous break down. Princess Kitana took control of the Necron and with the help of the captain she was able to win the fight against a Star Destroyer. Well I thought about my life and I decided to open a new casino."

"Well, ambassador, for me, it was during the time in jail waiting for my trial. I was paying for crimes that I never committed, it was my former admirals that did those attacks. Anyway, I found myself thinking that I wanted to do something that did involve money, but without killings."

Theen thought on the two for a moment.

"Yes, Kitana seems to be heading for some importance in the affairs of Gallor. I look forward to hopefully having more talks with her, I'm sure there is much we can benefit from each other," he said. "I find it very commendable that the two of you have moved on from your previous stations in life. I can understand well and fully. I have seen much war in my long years. All my work as a diplomat is in hopes of creating a better galaxy, I hope not to see war again in my life. The two of you are great examples of what one can do with their lives in the wake of war and destruction."

Theen looked about at his party for a moment, and thought to himself, From warlords to Brutball, this galaxy is indeed strange.

"Well, my guests, enjoy the evening, partake in some dance. It was a pleasure meeting the both of you, please come by my office anytime if there is anything I may be able to do for you." Theen shook their hands and bade them, then he continued on his way to mingle with other guests.

"A Dance to Remember, Part 2"
By: Raeila Selrid
Dargus Kandran

Location: New Republic Embassy, Yalyssar District
Date: Vadris 1, 4 ABY

***

Dargus spun Raeila out further onto the dancefloor, then pulled her back into his arms. He laughed as she laughed wildly. "You're doing great," he said.

"It's easy with someone who knows what he's doing!" She giggled again as her feet lightly trampled his. Her silken, blonde ringlets bounced against her bared shoulders, then streamed outwards when Dargus lifted her feet clear from the ground - and his - to twirl with Rae in his arms as if her weight was insignificant. Shrieking, she flung her arms around his neck and held on fiercely. He was, himself, laughing, and it truly puzzled Rae. The last she had seen of him, Dargus was forcing himself upon her and enjoying it. It put a damper on her merriment, and made her very aware of how close he was holding her. She tensed.

"It's alright," Dargus whispered, as if sensing her discomfort. "I'm not going to hurt you, Raeila. For what it's worth, I promise." To ease the fears he sensed building in her, he let her move a little further from him, holding her a little more loosely. He sighed to himself and looked away, and then stopped dancing. "I'm sorry," he added, and moved to where the drinks were.

Raeila stood alone on the dance floor, watching Dargus' profile, then his head toss back as he drained a shot. She regretted that her still lingering resentment had soured their moment of enjoyment, but it would take some time before the monster could ever become a true friend. Lifting the hem of her dress slightly from the ground so it was not a hazard, she hurried up to Dargus, and watched him with large, non-accusatory eyes. "You should be, you know," she told him plainly. "Sorry - you should be sorry for what you did."

"And, I should be sorry that I'll never not be able to be the monster I was," Dargus said without facing her. "I should be sorry that no one will ever let me not be that person, that horror. I can never atone for what I've done because people won't let me. They'll see me for what I was, not who I am now. I haven't touched you, haven't attempted to force myself on you in any way...but the distrust is still there, the resentment. No matter what I do, I can't escape it. I can't be a decent member of society because society will only view me for what I was before. How can I escape when people won't allow it?"

"I never said any of that," Rae told him gently. "I'm just...saying that it's going to take time." She smiled easily and stepped in closer. Running a finger along his jawline, Rae confided, "And getting a new face will certainly make that easier."

Dargus reached up and touched her hand. "Thank you," he said softly. "I like this face a little better than the last. I didn't tell you before, but Talara and the others should now be free of Nieme and Dani. Though, I suspect Jadda will be somewhat upset with me since I failed to deliver her to him."

Raeila's face paled, the blood draining away from a mixture of shock and fear. She pulled her hand from his and stepped away. "He...he won't like that. You said Vorgoth was following.... He'll kill us both!"

Dargus raised an eyebrow and shook his head. "He may try," he said, "but I assure you he'll fail. If I considered him a concern, I would have taken care of him by now. Trust me, Raeila, I won't allow anything to happen to you." He held his hand out to her again. "If I thought him more of a concern, I would have taken additional precautions. You're safe with me, and when I release you from my care, you will be safe with the Jedi."

Without cringing away from him once more, Raeila slipped her hand into his and with audible surprise told him, "I trust you. And...I think I can forgive you, Dargus." She smiled brightly. "One more dance, and maybe I'll have my mind made up for sure."

"One more dance," Dargus said with a smile, and led the way back out to the dance floor. They did actually move well together, especially with how fluidly he managed to extract his feet from beneath hers when they both misstepped. Though, as the dance went on, there seemed to be much less footstepping.

Rae's head rested comfortably against Dargus' shoulder for the dance's entirety, the only sounds coming from her being contented sighs. As the song was winding down, Raeila embraced him and whispered, "Thank you for tonight." And she turned her face up towards his to lightly plant a kiss upon his chin, the closest thing within reach.

Dargus smiled and kissed her forehead. "You're welcome," he said. "I hope it's at least a start to making amends for before, for everything. Tomorrow, I'll take you back to the Temple and you can be with your husband again, with people who love you and will watch after you."

"And...and you'll take care of Vorgoth and Jadda?" she asked.

"If I need to take care of them," Dargus said, "I will. They won't hurt you again, Raeila. Whatever I can do to prevent that from happening, I will. For what a promise from me is worth, I promise you that."

"And for what it's worth to you," Raeila answered. "Thanks."

Dargus smiled. "It's worth much to me," he said. "So, what would you like to do now, Raeila? We can dance, get more food, or go get some fresh air out on the balcony."

She grinned. "Outside." Grasping both his hands, she backed them away from the dance floor. "Then," she added, "we can leave, unless you're required to mingle with more socialites."

"Outside it is," he said as he followed her toward the large double doors that led to the balcony. "Are you worn out already that you wish to leave?"

"No...not worn out at all." Raeila smiled enigmatically and watched Dargus with a mischievous sidelong gaze as she skipped off through the doorway. With arms outstretched, she took in a deep lungful of cool, night air, and sighed happily. "It's wonderful here!" She gripped the railing of the balustrade and raised herself onto the edge, balancing on her abdomen to peer over the side of the building. "I can see the whole province from here!"

He pointed off toward the west. "If you look there, in that big patch of lights. That's the royal palace and Arcadia. Just to the left of that, that's where my new business is being set up." He pointed to the east. "Just over there, that's where our hotel is, and the store where we got your dress. The spaceport's just beyond that. And, yes, from here, you can see pretty much anything."

"You sure know a lot about Tae'Karada," Raeila noted. She set her feet down and turned her back to the rail, watching Dargus as she spoke. "How long have you lived here?"

"I've lived here most of my life," Dargus answered. "I was born on Corellia. I moved here when I was twenty. So, I guess I've been living here around eleven years now. Almost twelve."

"I've been here all my life," she volunteered, smiling a touch ruefully. "I love the desert...you grow up fast, there...but it's not like this place. Here, things seem to be more complicated. If I'd stayed in Thanatos, none of this would be happening to me now. Though," she amended, holding Dargus' gaze, "this isn't so bad."

"No, not at all," he said as his eyes found hers. "I don't think I've ever had any life but complications. I guess that's par for the course when you're wicked and evil. Though, I have a feeling now that I'm trying to be less wicked, it won't be any less complicated than before. I imagine it would be boring if there weren't a few complications."

"Boring," Rae agreed, "but you'd have a lot more friends to be bored with."

"So very true," Dargus said. "I hope out of this night I'll have one more friend than I've had before. I know I've been a bad person, and I know I've treated many people poorly, yourself first among many. I hope tonight can be the first step towards getting past that life and move on with a new one."

Raeila sighed affectedly and shrugged as she coyly wandered away from Dargus. "Well...that all depends on one thing..."

"And what's that?" Dargus asked, watching her from where he leaned against the railing.

She stopped at the opposite end of the balcony, and when she spun to face him, flaxen hair jouncing and glinting in the starlight, she flashed him a dazzling, impish smile. "You take me shopping again, and this time I'll gladly spend your credits." Raeila's eyelashes batted innocently. "It's the best way to make friends."

Dargus laughed and nodded. "You have a deal then," he said. "Tomorrow morning, we'll go shopping if that's a good time for you."

"Tomorrow morning," Raeila reminded him, "Jadda will be expecting me." She clasped her hands at the small of her back, and skipped lightly towards him, singing, "But I won't be there." A hop and a spin brought her dancing around Dargus, chanting exuberantly of how Jadda would require a new slave to chain to his throne. Giggling, she snatched up Dargus' hand and performed a twirl beneath it. "Come on," she urged. "Dance with me!"

Dargus stepped into the dance with her, his feet syncing with hers and his fingers curling into hers. He couldn't hold back the feelings of elation that seemed to roll off her. It was an amazing feeling to see her so very happy, and knowing that he had had some part in that. Rather than hurting and tormenting, he'd brought her joy. It was a good feeling. He laughed aloud and twirled her around, himself going with her. "And, you said you didn't know how to dance."

"I don't." She laughed. "But Jadda doesn't know that, no matter how many times I trip over my chains!"

"Well, I happen to believe you're doing very well," Dargus said with a wide grin. "Why, you've hardly stepped on my feet at all since we've come out here. That's a sign of improvement." He twirled her again, and then drew her back to him.

"I've only ever danced with Kael like this a few times," Rae admitted as the music from within the ballroom slowed in tempo. She nestled her cheek to Dargus' chest and stared out across the city. "I miss him," she whispered. "But I also...I don't know if I can face him. Those things Nieme said...."

"I don't know if there's truth to her words," Dargus said, "but you should face him, Raeila. Don't just accept what Nieme claimed as truth. Give him a chance to explain if he needs to, but don't just toss him away without an explanation." He laughed softly and shook his head. "I don't know how many times I've jumped to conclusions, only to find that in the end I was only presented with one side of the truth, or less. Remember the source of the information. Then again, if you still have doubts, you're welcome to stay with me for longer."

Raeila pulled her head back to eye Dargus skeptically. "Really? You don't mind having me around?"

"Not at all," Dargus said with a smile. "It's been a long time since I've had someone I could just talk to. For a time, I had Yelara...but...but she was always Liam's. After awhile, my own jealousy tore us apart. When I met Nieme and Dani...it was just a struggle for power and dominance, and seeing who had the greatest amount of stamina in bed. With you, I can just talk and listen and...and not worry."

Rae studied his eyes, ones that could barely look upon her. He was ashamed of his past, that much was for certain. She'd heard Kael speak about the Dark side many times, and Dargus wasn't fully to blame for all the horrible deeds he had committed. Even now, she was no longer experiencing the hatred for him she had once borne. Now, she was smiling. "I'm glad I could help. I've been alone before and it's not very pleasant. And...and even if I do return to the Temple, it doesn't mean you can't visit....right?"

"Right," Dargus said with a laugh. "You'll have to keep any overzealous Jedi at bay for me though. My protector." He grinned. "If you'd like for me to visit, I'd be very happy to."

"Well...I think I've sort of forgiven you for what you did to me," she answered slowly. Her beaming smile was decisive enough. "Yes...I have. So, I would like for you to visit, if I choose to stay there. That all depends on what happens with Kael."

"Time will tell then," Dargus said with a smile. "And, for now, we'll take each moment as it comes and enjoy the time we have as friends."

"Like now?" Rae giggled as she shot Dargus a wink. "I truly hope you're not deceiving me, Dargus Kandran, because you're the only person on this planet I have right now."

Dargus took both of Raeila's hands and brought them to his lips. "I promise you that I am being truthful and honest with you. I like you very much, Raeila. And...and it feels good to make you happy, to see you smile. I've been so bad all my life...it feels good to actually be nice to someone, to do what I can for them with no strings and no expectations."

She chuckled awkwardly. "Well...let's just hope you stay this way. I certainly like this Dargus better."

Dargus laughed. "Well, you make wanting to stay this way much more appealing," Dargus said. "It's nice not to be feared, or to feel that I have to prove anything. I don't know if I'll be perfect, but I think I like being a decent person."

"You think?" Chuckling merrily, Raeila spun away with Dargus across the expanse of balcony, not daring to think of what tomorrow might bring, good or bad.

This time, Dargus did follow after her, his feet moving in the intricate steps of a dance. "So, one more dance and go? Or should we stay longer? The choice is yours, of course."

Raeila sighed, once again nestling her head against his chest. "Let's just go... This is great and all...but I don't know any of these people and that Theen fellow scares me!"

Dargus slipped an arm around her waist and started back toward the party. "Very well," he said. "If you'd like, when we return to the hotel, we can order up a quick bite to eat. You haven't really lived until you've had room service."

"Then breathe some life into me," Raeila declared brightly, and affectionately wrapped both thin arms around his abdomen as she leaned into him.

"Gladly," Dargus said with a grin as he, once again, kissed her forehead. "Now, come, my dear, our speeder awaits. We can leave all this glitter and glamour behind us, and just be ourselves again. Though, the glitter and glamour is kind of nice...in moderation."

"Very nice," she agreed, glancing down to admire her dress. "I look just like a princess." Nearly springing out of his embrace with excitement, she amended, "Or the High Princess of Tae'Karada!"

Dargus laughed again. "Oh, most definitely," he said, still grinning. "Though, I assure you, the last High Princess, she pales compared to you. She was very attractive and had a lot of style, but she didn't have your zest for life." He sensed something and looked around. "The Jedi are here," he suddenly amended. "Koran Darr and Laedra Vorrel. They're near the door." He looked to her, uncertain what to expect of her reaction, uncertain of his own reaction.

She squinted into the crowd, searching for a break that would give her a glimpse of them, of Kael, possibly. If she saw him, would she run into his arms, or would she turn away in disgust? In either case, she craned her neck to keep searching. "Maybe we should go to them... I-I'd protect you, Dargus. I would!"

"Thank you," Dargus answered. "Come then, let's go meet them. They should at least know you are safe."

With inexplicable trepidation, Rae wended her way through the crowd, staying close beside Dargus. Was the Temple where she truly wished to be? She would have to face Kael and find the truth about Nieme's accusations of infidelity. If it was true, she would have no choice but to leave behind the Jedi and return to Thanatos. Though, considering her misfortune in New Plouton, the prospect was not an altogether unpleasant one.

"Reflections, Part 1"
Girra Xel-Xux Zillar (PC)
Yurilli (NPC)

Location: New Republic Embassy, Yalyssar District

Girra stood out on the balcony of the Embassy, away from all the commotion of the party. She lit her Corellian cigarette, a long and thin cigar with a sweet minty taste and aroma. She inhaled slowly and deeply, holding it in for a moment, then released the smoke with her anxieties. She was troubled about what to do about this Laerron and Vekker, and that bitch Jalahana. She had narrowly escaped with her life, and she meant to make them all pay.

She knew from her ship's records that the forest area she was taken to was the Chimaedel Forest to the east of Arcadia. She had yet to hear back from any of her contacts about the possible location of Vekker's base in New Plouton. She thought to look in the city database for a specific building she recalled as she stared out among the lights of the city. It had a unique design, partially visible from her view in Vekker's pool room through the domed ceiling. As she looked out at the sprawling metropolis she wondered if it wasn't out there before her, one of many lights that shone and twinkled before her. No matter, she thought, their day would come soon enough.

She took another drag of her cigarette and a long sip of her ale. She casually glanced at the couple down on the other end. They looked happy to her, in love. She had noted them dancing before. Girra used to love to dance when she was younger, before her life changed forever when the Empire took her family from her again. All she had done since was fly and work against the Empire in her own little ways, making money and searching for any information about her long lost brother Orthan, the only family she had left in the whole galaxy.

She thought of him, what he would look like now, compared to the holo image she had of him and her parents from before their death and his abduction by Tarkin. She wondered if he even knew she was out here, or if he ever even remembered he had a sister. If he was even alive. That was what scared Girra the most. She looked at the two people again, envious. She had never really known love, she felt alone in so many ways. She had shared her bed with a person or two here and there, and the closest thing to a relationship she ever had was with an Omwati she met a long time ago on Omwat, when she was visiting her homeworld before adoptive world of Alderaan had been destroyed. She was only a girl then, really, she thought. He was but a boy, and he was her first. It was an enjoyable experience, he was nice enough, but now that Girra looked back on him and how she was, it wouldn't have lasted. He was studying to be a scholar, he was handsome and charming, but he was sort of silly and was always trying to impress her. Girra snorted in amusement at the whole incident. Now, that night with the Zeltron was another story, she thought to herself as she grinned.

Girra thought back to that encounter. She had been feeling particularly lonely, it had been a long month of hauling cargo here and there, and whatever lead she had come across about Omwati children taken by the Empire on Omwat had come to a dead end. She was at a bar on Cloud City, getting rather inebriated, trying to drink away her frustration and stresses. An attractive woman with pink skin and violet hair had sat up at the bar next to her that night. She was a Zeltron, and Girra knew full well what they were known for. The woman introduced herself as Yurilli and offered Girra a drink. Girra accepted, having planned well ahead to get nice and drunk. The two began to chit chat and Yurilli had began to hit on her and touch her, first with a casual hand on her shoulder, then playing with her hair, and then a warm hand on her thigh. Girra shifted her stance with that thought, remembering how it felt to be touched with affection, even if it was only for affection's sake and not from a lover.

Girra took another long drag from her cigarette, and a drink from her glass. She let herself drift back to that night. She didn't have anyone in her life and no prospects this night, so she thought to entertain herself with memories for the time being, until she finished her smoke.

Girra thought back to her and Yurilli. The Zeltron woman had to help her walk as she had had ample to drink that night. They laughed and giggled all the way back to the Zeltron's room. Girra felt a bit of the trepidation and curiosity from what she felt that night as she explored her memory. Yurilli lead her into the room, a plush suite in the heart of Cloud City. Yurilli lead Girra to the bedroom, she remembered her asking, "So tell me, Girra, have you ever been with a woman before?"

Girra grinned at the thought from that night. She had replied with a shake of her head, no, and a giggle at her situation. She remembered thinking later, just what she was thinking that night. It wasn't as if Girra had ever really entertained the notion of being attracted to another female, or that she had never had any desires of such... Must have been the liquor! Girra thought as she continued to reflect on that night.

The Zeltron woman had undressed before Girra, revealing her ample breasts and her soft pink skin until she was completely naked. She had approached Girra, and pushed her down from her sitting position to lie on the bed. Girra had laughed and just let the woman do as she thought fit. Yurilli had unbuttoned Girra's blouse and bent down to her ear.

"Are you comfortable, blue-one?" Yurilli whispered as she slipped her hand between Girra's thighs.

Girra almost jumped at the action, but let her self relax in the Zeltron's charge. "I am yes..."

Yurilli nuzzled Girra's ear, and kissed on her neck. She had tasted her with her tongue and moaned with satisfaction. She then had crawled down to Girra's feet, and undid her pants, slipped them off and threw them across the room. Girra burst out with laughter, both in amusement and from her anxiety of expectation. Yurilli played around with Girra for a time, tracing lines with her fingers and then her tongue along the inside of her thighs and her stomach. When Yurilli had finally went down on her, Girra moaned in a release of pleasure and stress, as her body quivered and released. Girra remembered being flooded head to toe with sensations of pleasure, so much so that she was lost in it all, oblivious to any other feelings or thoughts. For hours the Zeltron played with her, and Girra would return the affections, back and forth all the night.

Girra came out of her daze as she felt the heat from her nearly burnt out cigarette. She took one last drag and released it with the thoughts from that one night. She took an ample drink from her glass and put the cigarette out in it. She turned from the railing to procure another drink and find another distraction before she got herself too worked up.

"The Past, Future and Present"
Theen Fida, (NPC+)
Amii'a Val'or (NPC+)

Location: New Republic Embassy, Yalyssar District
Date: Vadris 1st, 4ABY

***

The evening had been progressing rather well, Theen had thought as he surveyed the ballroom and all those who were in attendance. Theen saw that Amii'a was making her way towards him. She had been talking with Girra, Kitana and Karma for the most part of the early stages of the party. Theen held a lot of respect for the Karadan woman, especially after all she had been through, with her parents, the rebellion, and now as an up-and-coming diplomat in the state of affairs for Tae'Karada. She was a shrewd woman, very skilled in diplomacy as well as in other areas from her years of covert operations within the Empire for the rebellion. She could be somewhat over zealous though, Theen thought. He had been trying to instill in her more patience, that sometimes things had to play out in stages over a long period of time. It was not like the days of the rebellion, where you just shot the man wearing an Imperial uniform.

These days were definitely different. During the Empire many different peoples fought together against its tyranny, farm boys, street thugs, organised crime, rebels of all ages and ethnic backgrounds. Now that the Empire was no more, the New Republic had a lot to deal with. Many systems and planets like Tae'Karada have chosen not to join the New Republic out right, and rightly so. Old grudges and ages old feuds had resumed, allegiances during the rebellion had been severed...but there was always hope, Theen surmised. He looked at the beautiful young woman coming his way. Hope lies in those like you, Amii'a, Theen thought to himself. The future may be based on the actions of those like myself, who lived during the Old Republic, and those who fought for so long for the galaxy's freedom. But what you do with the future is all up to you.

Theen only hoped that the next generation would do better than the current and past generations. He had worked very hard to help fight against the Empire, and just as hard to help promote and bring around a more stable galaxy, for a reign of peace and prosperity that would last. But already the same flaws that eventually lead to the Old Republic's demise had started to take root in the new. Most people were wary of the New Republic, for fear that a war time regime could not possibly pick up the pieces of old. Theen himself even believed it to certain degrees. After all, the rebellion made alliances with criminals, the rebels committed acts against the Empire that were in all reality acts of terrorism, but in the name of freedom, and made just by the fact that two evil Lords of the Sith reigned by fear, force, prejudice and their twisted visions of order.

Theen had several priorities in his position as Ambassador to Tae'Karada for the New Republic. One was to maintain Tae'Karada's ties to the New Rebuplic, as it was not a member state. Through Amii'a he served that purpose, as she was Tae'Karada's liaison to Theen. Theen also had been grooming Amii'a for a greater purpose. Theen foresaw that the New Republic had many hardships ahead, and as always the seat of power and decisions rested in the Core. Theen had lived most of his life in the Outer Rim, and the Outer Rim Territories had just as much to offer the galaxy as did the Core worlds. Theen was very active in the support of the Allegiance of Outer Rim Worlds, and he had high hopes to groom Amii'a to take an important role in the Alliance's future.

"Ambassador, the party is most wonderful. I am surprised to see you standing here outside of all that is going on," Amii'a said.

Theen smiled. "I am just thinking, and surveying the party. All is well, child, I assure you. How are you coming along this evening?"

"Everything is well. I am surprised Oot Kovan has not joined us yet, but I'm sure she is waiting to make a grand entrance after all have arrived."

"Surely," Theen commented. "It will be a pleasure to have her here at the Embassy of course. Even the Embassy's accommodations are not as grand as those at the Palace."

Amii'a smiled. "True, the Palace is grand, but you have done well with this event. It does not pale, it is the event itself, and the people in attendance, as well as what is made of it."

"Very good answer, my dear," Theen stated in thanks and pride.

"I believe that we may have better relations with Gallor. Kitana is quite receptive. After all she did ask Tae'Karada for help before, and the New Republic is hard pressed to offer any real aid," Amii'a informed. "I'm still unclear as to the state of things of Oceana, but I think Karma and I are getting along fine. She seems a bit put off though, probably just has a lot on her mind, all things considered."

"I'm sure. You choose your friends wisely, Amii'a, and you choose them well. Karma will be instrumental in Oceana's future, as will Kitana of Gallor," Theen commented.

"So what is really on your mind?" Amii'a asked outright now that small talk had ended.

"I am concerned about this Dargus Kandran being here. I'm all for second chances and atonement, but it just strikes me, his being here and the things I've heard and know of him. He is the epitome of what is wrong in the New Republic, and the galaxy as a whole. During the days of the rebellion many of us did things that were not right, but justified by all things considered. We made alliances with criminals who now, by right of law, should be brought to justice. Some of them are allowed to go about their business because of their aid in the fight against the Empire. It would be one thing for them to have amnesty had they foregone their former affairs, but most have not. How are we to bring about a new era of peace and prosperity, of law and order, when these things go on? And whose fault is it really? Our own of course. It is perplexing."

"I know. I have committed many indiscretions myself as you well know. All in the name of freedom against the Empire. Some people I had made alliances with for the good of the fight, are people I must work against now in my current position. We all faced a very dark and trying time under the Empire, Theen," she said to her friend, her co-worker and mentor. "We chose the lesser of two evils and now we must deal with it."

Theen knew all this; he was wise and well educated. But hearing it from her was satisfying. She has grown so much from a rebel spy and operative, into the diplomat she is today, Theen thought. "Very true."

"Your work in overhauling the Alliance of the Outer Rim will have a huge impact on the future of this galaxy. It will outweight the problems we face from our past," Amii'a said.

"I do hope so," Theen answered. "And it is your work too, my dear, much credit belongs to you. We must make this Alliance work in the interests of all, and not to just allow it to be controlled by the leaders of these worlds. I want this new League to be a counter balance to the existing Alliance. I am as loyal to Tae'Karada as I am to the New Republic, you know, but my true allegiance is to the people of these worlds. Governments rise and fall. I have hope for the New Republic's survival, I have hope for Tae'Karada's future, it has been my home for nearly fifty years. I have seen firsthand how priorities are lost in the vastness of a galactic government, how the Senate forgot the people they were supposed to represent, worrying about their own welfare and desires, and forgetting the people they were sworn to represent. And at the same time people themselves forget to help themselves, trusting in their representatives and leaderships when there is so much they can do for themselves. After all, people do outnumber their governorships billions to one!" Theen laughed at the notion.

"I understand, Ambassador. The League should prove to be most invaluable in the long term," Amii'a said. "Hopefully it will help put more power and options in the hands of those who can really make a difference, and not just leave everything up to those who forget what life is like on their own planets."

"You don't think Oot Kovan will see this as a threat to her own Alliance?" Theen asked Amii'a.

"I don't. It will do nothing but help Tae'Karada and the Outer Rim as a whole. She and Tae'Karada have as much to gain from it as anyone else. Oot is not an easy person to sum up, of course. I do know that is she is loyal to Tae'Karada, and she takes her position with the New Republic seriously," Amii'a explained.

"Well you know her better than I," Theen stated.

Amii'a laughed. "Well I don't know about that. I may be Tae'Karada's liaison to the New Republic, by way of you, of course, but she is Tae'Karada's representative to the New Republic. I only have Oot's audience when she deems it so. Besides, you know my official work is primarily for the business interests of Tae'Karada in respect to your own position and official agendas."

"Sometimes I think you're too smart for your own good, child," Theen joked. "You must lose some of your modesty. It does you good at times, but you are well on your way to becoming an important figure in the shaping of Tae'Karada's future."

Amii'a smiled and gave a bow of appreciation in a joking manner. Although her main mandate as diplomatic liaison to the New Republic, by way of Theen's ambassadorship on Tae'Karada, was for the promotion of business interests for Tae'Karada's prosperity and influence, she took on many other duties that were larger than her official role. As she knew full well that Theen did. After all, he was a mentor of sorts to her - they had ties that went back to their days as Rebels. She was very pleased to work alongside of him. He was a good person, a trusted friend.

"All right now, is this a party or what?" she said.

"Ladies and Gentlemen," the protocol droid that announced new arrivals amplified so all could hear, "Lady Oot Kovan and Kambra Gant!"

"A Dance to Remember, Part 3"

Dargus Kandran

Raeila and Dargus emerged from the throng together; Koran Darr and Laedra Vorrel were focused on them before their eyes could connect, and when they did, Raeila quickly looked down as she stepped aside from Dargus, clasping both her hands in front of her. Her demeanour was entirely crestfallen.

Koran cast a wary glance at Dargus, then rushed forward toward Raeila. "Are you alright?" he asked her quickly. "Raeila...are you...you look well." Another glance at Dargus, then back to her. "Raeila, we've been worried like you wouldn't believe. Are you alright?"

She sighed and hesitantly turned her eyes up towards him. "I haven't been harmed," she answered softly. "And stop looking so suspicious. Dargus was the one who saved me."

"And you were there the night we came for Talara and Zari," Laedra said to him. "You led them away so we could all escape. I can only imagine why."

Dargus offered a bow to Laedra, keeping his head bowed as he said, "I have done things in my past that I regret. But, I am trying to put that behind me, to become someone...not thought of as the epitome of evil."

"Or you're trying to deceive us," she countered.

"He's not," Raeila insisted. "He saved me and he's done nothing to hurt me or...anything else," she finished, blushing.

Dargus sighed. "And, thus the reason why many people who have fallen never find their way back to the light," he said. "My intentions are genuine, but I know of no way to assure you of that beyond saying so and acting as I have over the last several days."

"Yes," Laedra agreed warily, "you have been behaving strangely.... But this is sudden, and you must understand how we can be so skeptical. You have been our enemy for some time - why this sudden change?"

Dargus sighed. "You might say that I had a dream," he said. "After several sleepless nights, I decided I had to change. I've also found the life of looking constantly over my shoulder to be tiring. And, when I look at a young woman, I would rather she not shrink away in fear. I know it's going to be a long road, but I want to be at least a halfway decent person."

Laedra nodded slowly. "Then why have you not come to the Jedi to seek assistance? Or, at least, express your desire to return to the light?"

"I'm starting slowly," Dargus answered, "starting with getting Raeila away from Jadda the Hutt. I don't know if I want to live the life of a Jedi, but perhaps you can help me through the difficult times. And...any way I can assist the Jedi... It's the least I can do to set some of the wrongs I've done, right."

Laedra looked aside at Koran; she still wasn't convinced.

"Please believe him," Raeila entreated them both. "He's been so kind.... I know he really wants to change."

"Would you prefer that I go on a rampage and try to kill everyone here?" Dargus asked. "If it's too foreign a concept for you to accept that someone could behave as I did, and then try to turn back against my past, perhaps you'd prefer that I not try to change at all. Maybe Liam Zaneth will join me, since he turned from darkness as well."

Koran laughed. "No, it won't be necessary," he said. "But, you have to understand that we'll be wary."

"I know," Dargus said. "But as I was telling Raeila earlier, the self-righteous never make it easy for the fallen to come back to the light. Perhaps that's why so few do...because there's so little forgiveness and welcome given from the side they're trying to get to." Dargus gave Lae a grin. "And, that's precisely why I didn't come to the Jedi. I knew that I would be met with nothing but mistrust and doubt. Not very encouraging for the man seeking redemption."

"You can hardly blame us for our hesitance, Dargus," Laedra pointed out. "You have tried to kill us on many occasions. But," she added, smiling at Raeila, "you have brought back someone we care deeply for, and for that, we do owe you our thanks, and perhaps a bit of trust."

Dargus offered another bow. "Thank you," he said. "I hope that perhaps this might become the beginning of some sort of alliance between us. While I don't believe the life of a Jedi is for me, I do hope that my relationship with the Jedi might be amicable."

"In time," Laedra allowed. "But for now...." She held a hand out to Raeila. "Kael's been expecting you for some time. Shall we?"

Her first instinct was to seek Dargus for guidance. "I can't leave without you...can I?"

"If you wish to go," Dargus said, then smiled, "it's alright. You should see Kael and work through this. Don't let whatever Nieme said, or whatever might have actually happened spoil the love you feel for him. It can be worked through." He squeezed her hand. "Don't throw it away, Raeila...one day you may turn around, and it'll all be gone. That's not a feeling you ever want to feel...trust me."

"But...Vorgoth will be watching," she reminded him. "You have to be with me or else...." Smiling hopefully, she took his hand. "Come with us, at least until we reach the forest."

Dargus thought for a moment, then grinned. "Of course," he said. "We probably shouldn't be seen going there together." He looked to Koran and Laedra. "We can meet you just inside the forest, if that's alright. The situation is complex. Jadda the Hutt's stooge is undoubtedly watching our every move. I don't think he'll take kindly to us heading off with two Jedi. I'd rather keep him guessing a little longer, even though the Hutt's probably already given him orders to kill me on sight."

Koran pondered Dargus' words. "We can meet you there," he said, then glanced to Laedra. "We can probably shelter you at the Temple for a time if you need a place to...lie low."

"Yes," Raeila agreed impulsively, smiling her radiant smile for Dargus. "I could show you the waterfall and the reservoir and the forest...and I've even planted a garden, or helped to, at least."

"And if you do have ill intentions," Laedra reminded him, "you will not be permitted to enter...so I do not see the harm."

Dargus smiled, then nodded with what almost seemed like enthusiasm. "It sounds like a perfect plan," he said. "We should probably grab your things from the hotel, then we can take the speeder out toward the forest. How does that sound?"

Raeila heaved a sigh of relief. "Great. Koran, you and Laedra can enjoy the party for a while. We'll meet you all ready to go!"

Koran smirked and glanced over to Laedra. "We'll see you soon," he said. He slipped a blank chip into his commlink, then pulled it out and handed it to Dargus. "My commlink ID in case you need to contact us."

Dargus accepted the chip and pocketed it. "We'll be at the forest in forty-five minutes. Thank you, both."

Koran nodded. "Just prove to us that falling to the dark side isn't a lost cause."

"I plan to," he said, then looked to Rae. "Ready?"

She nodded, then grinned to both Koran and Lae. With a burst of excitement, she rushed towards them and wrapped an arm around each. "I missed you," she whispered.

"As did we," Laedra replied warmly.

Rae gave a final squeeze, then hopped back to Dargus' side. Her vigourous waving continued even as the two stepped out of the hall.

They walked in silence for several paces with Dargus glancing in Raeila's direction from the corner of his eye. "So, how are you feeling? Less trepidation about going to the Temple now? There will be much more protection from Jadda and his people there."

"That's not what I was worried about," she explained. "It was...seeing Kael again that scared me. But now...with you, it won't be so bad." Raeila smiled and leaned her head against his shoulder. "This was a good night," she whispered.

Dargus smiled and then nodded. "It was," he said. He put an arm around her as they walked. "I'm happy with how things have turned out. I think you're the first person I can truly consider as a friend...at least for a very long time."

"You'll have more," she assured him, and winked. "Once you're in those Jedi robes. Everyone looks pure and innocent in those."

"Oh, I have no intention of wearing them," Dargus said with a laugh. "I happen to like my own clothing. And...while I don't intend to be like I was, I don't know if the life of a Jedi is one I'd like to live. What they do is important, but...I guess I'm a little more independent. But, I guess things do change, so we'll see what happens."

"And with me around, you're in for plenty of surprises." Hiking up the hem of her dress, Raeila giggled boisterously at Dargus, then scampered towards the speeder. "I get to drive!" she announced.

Dargus couldn't help laughing. "Have you driven a speeder before?" he asked. "Not that I'm afraid for my life as I place it in your hands..."

"Then don't ask," she advised and with a daring smile hopped into the pilot's seat. The repulsors hummed moments later, and the thrusters roared as she tested them. "Get in!"

Dargus climbed into the speeder and grinned over at her. "Let's go," he said with a laugh.

Raeila executed a lazy salute, and continuing the forward motion of her hand as it pushed off her forehead, Raeila hit the thruster. Their speeder launched and Raeila whooped. It wasn't difficult to remember how wonderful freedom felt.

Dargus tried to remain casual as the speeder whipped through the streets of New Plouton. He laughed aloud as they swung around a corner with the back of the speeder waggling as she regained control. "You're a natural," Dargus said.

"I'm a natural at many things," she quipped. The look she cast him was sultry and highly suggestive.

Dargus laughed as he shared an electric look with Raeila. "I bet you are," he whispered.

***

They'd thrown the purchases from the day before into bags and gathered the other belongings they'd managed to acquire since moving into the hotel room. As they stood, Dargus took a look around then looked back to Raeila. "Well, here we go," he said. "I think we've got everything. I'll have to remember this hotel...it's a nice place."

"Too bad we didn't get to spend more time here," Raeila sighed. She reluctantly broke her gaze off of the large, silk-sheeted bed that had wrapped her in comfort the previous night, and hefted a bag filled with her new clothing. "It's better to just say a short goodbye...or we'll miss it too much."

"I think you're right," Dargus said. "Perhaps another time, when everything calms down, we might be able to find another hotel room to befriend." He grinned. "If I weren't trying to be a good person, I'd grab some of the room's niceties for you. Perhaps, at the Temple, we can turn your room into something close to this one."

Raeila smiled fondly. "Thanks.... I'm looking forward to going there with you. It'll be a nice change." She sighed and swung the bag over her shoulder. With a yelp, Raeila and the bag were pulled to the ground under its weight. She giggled after recovering. "I didn't think I had this much stuff!"

Dargus reached down to help her up. "Well, we did do quite a bit of shopping yesterday," he said. "If you'd like, I can carry it down for you." He gave a gentle tug to pull her back up to her feet.

Raeila laughed as she wrapped both arms around Dargus' neck and dangled from it like the necklace around her own, except Raeila weighed much more. "I think," she told him, still giggling and dropping her head back to gaze up at him, "I had a lot to drink tonight."

Dargus laughed and slipped his arms around her to hold her and support her weight. "I think perhaps you did," he said. "Which means, you probably shouldn't be driving the speeder. But, then again, I've always enjoyed living dangerously."

"Me too," she whispered, and brought one hand forward to stroke his cheek. "I really like your new face. It's...less sinister looking."

"Less sinister is good," Dargus said with a wistful smile. "I like who I am with you, Raeila. I like it like this. Thank you for believing in me, trusting me...and being my friend."

"And thank you for saving me," she murmured. Her fingers brushed across his lips, Raeila focusing on them intently. "I wish I hadn't run away from you that night.... I would have much rather been in your bed than Jadda's."

Dargus kissed her fingers. "It would have been nice," he said. "But you didn't want to be with that Dargus. He may have been nicer looking than Jadda, and smelled a lot better. But...but he wouldn't have treated you the way you deserved to be treated. He wouldn't have loved you as you deserve to be loved."

"It wouldn't have had to be love," she whispered, lightly running the fingertips he had touched against her own lips. "Just...tenderness, that's all." Raeila paused to stare at Dargus, her smile soft and enticing. "Just a little tenderness," she repeated significantly.

Dargus held her close, could feel the beating of her heart between their bodies. He leaned forward and brushed his lips tenderly against hers.

She chuckled softly and closed her eyes to appreciate the remaining tingle left by Dargus' tenuous kiss. The single, prominent thought was: He isn't Kael. Yet Raeila returned the gesture still, with hands stealing beneath Dargus' shirt. She giggled and took leading steps forward, urging him towards the bed. "I told you I drank too much," she laughed.

"Are you sure about this?" Dargus asked as he allowed her to lead him. "We still have time, so if this is what you do want...gods know I'm very attracted to you, Raeila." He kissed her again, passion filling him. "A little tenderness..."

"I haven't had any in some time," she admitted ruefully, and Raeila stopped briefly as they sat down upon the bed. Instead of roaming further beneath his shirt, Raeila whimpered and snaked her arms around his waist as her head went to his chest. "It was horrible with Jadda. I-I couldn't do anything to stop it, though. And it just feels so...sickening."

With one arm around her, Dargus allowed the other to gently trace her curves. "I'm sorry you had to go through that, Raeila," he said. "I wish I could have done something to have stopped it." He held her closer. "It's alright now, Raeila. Everything will be alright now."

"I just...want to go home," she whispered. "I want everything to be normal again, from before Nieme and Dani ruined everything."

"I don't know if all the pieces can be put back in place," Dargus said. "As your friend, though, I promise I'll do whatever I can to make things as normal as can be."

Raeila snickered and upturned her face to Dargus'. "If things were normal, you'd be paying me for services rendered." Again, her eyes glinted with mischief. "You know the kind..."

Dargus laughed and he leaned in and kissed her throat. "Well, maybe not that normal," he said.

"Well, Kael did say I could go back to my old job," Raeila informed Dargus. Her hands moved to the back of her gown, where Raeila began driving down the zipper slowly. She watched Dargus with a questioning, uncertain gaze. "If Kael was with Nieme...I should get even."

Dargus leaned forward and kissed her as his hand ran over the silky fabric covering her stomach and breasts. "Fair is fair," he said softly. "And, if you'd like, you can name a price and I will pay it. Any price."

"Any?" she breathed. A soft gasp escaped her trembling lips as the bodice of her dress fell away and Dargus' hands covered her bosom. Rae greedily kissed him back and pressed herself against him. He slowly reclined with her onto the mattress, and Raeila's sexual prowess reigned where rationality was lost. Dargus' pants were roughly opened. "I like the new look," she told him hastily, then planted her lips to the hollow of his throat.

Dargus arched against her touch, allowing his hands to freely roam. As her hands delved into his pants, she found him already ready for her. He helped to push the dress down along her body as his lips and mouth found her breasts, eliciting soft gasps from her. "Thank you," he whispered. "It feels like a much better fit for me. It means much that you like it."

"I'm just your whore for the evening; does it really matter what I think?" she teased, lifting the first leg free of her dress and setting it down around Dargus' waist. Straddling him, she gave a quick tug and jerked his pants down. She was still grinning when she looked upon him. "Well, as long as you're accepting my opinions...that certainly is nice." Her finger travelled lazily along the shaft.

"Your opinions will always be most welcome," Dargus said. "And, I've always made it a point to stay in prime shape. Did I mention I've mastered shac'tae?"

Raeila's eyebrows arched in appreciation, and expectancy. "Well...I'd much rather see than take your word for it," she replied and couldn't help thinking how this would be perfect retribution for Kael's infidelity. If they were both guilty of the same indiscretion, Raeila would have no reason to hate him, and they could again be together. She needed him too much to resent him; Dargus would be giving her a reason not to. "I can't let you inside me," Raeila murmured as she lay atop him and crawled downwards. "I'm not going to have a baby with you."

"I understand," Dargus said. "Though, if you're going to do that, I think you should adjust yourself so I can reciprocate. Perhaps another time we can find a way to protect ourselves...if that's what you would like."

"Just this once," Raeila told him apologetically. "I can't be with you again, especially if you come to the Temple to live. Kael would hate you...he already will if he finds out."

"Then we'd best make the most of this," Dargus said as he brushed his fingers across her shoulders. "If you'd like, there is a technique in the shac'tae. I can withhold my climax. I could enter you, and pull out well before. There's a technique that many of the women who study shac'tae learn to prevent themselves from getting pregnant. I could teach it to you at the Temple if you like. It doesn't require us to do anything that Kael would have to worry about."

Raeila exhaled a whimpering sigh, pillowing her head upon his chest. "But...I only love Kael," she whispered. "This isn't how things were supposed to be.... In the desert, he promised to be my arozeil, and I'm his." Hot tears trickled onto him from Raeila's eyes, but her sobs were silent. Wedging her arm between them, she began massaging his erection, while pining for her husband. "It's all so useless.... I don't know what to do."

Dargus couldn't suppress the moan that was building from her touch. "We don't have to do this, Raeila," he said. "We can stop and get ready so you can go be with him."

"But...I can't hate him," she groaned in despair. "I have to so I won't hate him." Her strokes hastened.

"Of course," Dargus said, then reached down and caressed her cheek. "We'll make it so you can love him fully with no ill feelings."

This appeased Raeila, and gave comfort where there had once been the pain of betrayal and distressing confusion. With a serene smile, Raeila kissed the center of Dargus' chest, gazed up at him from beneath her lashes, and crawled the rest of the way down his body to engulf him without preamble. She would make it worth his pay.

***

"Wow," Dargus said as they started down in the lift. It was the fourth or so time he'd said it. "You're...you're very good." He grinned. "I'm very impressed."

Raeila giggled, snuggling against him. "You won't say that once you hear my price." Seeming wholly pleased with herself, Raeila tossed her head back and declared, "You, Dargus Kandran, have to live at the Temple and train in the ways of the Jedi. That's what you owe me."

Dargus glared briefly at her, then nodded. "It would be bad of me to refuse," he said. "Very well. I will train as a Jedi. You are a sneaky one, Raeila. I'm going to have to figure out a way to...get you back for this. I don't know how, but I'll figure a way." He shook his head, then laughed. "I just hope they don't kick me out before I can finish paying off this debt to you."

"Me too," she replied, smiling at him warmly. Her smaller hand slipped into his and she squeezed it gently. "It'll be good...you'll see."

Dargus smiled and nodded. "I believe you," he said as he pushed the front door open. "Come on, let's go meet up with Koran and Laedra. And, I'm certain there's a special someone back at the Temple just dying to see you."

Raeila nodded solemnly, her lighthearted mood suddenly deflated. "Yeah...let's just get this over with. The first steps are always the hardest."

"Oh come now," Dargus said with a chuckle. "It's not that bad." He turned and started to give her a kiss, then stopped. Something rippled through the Force, something dark. He couldn't help wonder if that's what the Jedi felt when he'd approach. He quickly pulled Raeila back. "Danger," he said. "We need to find another way out."

"What is it?" she asked with a frantic look around them. Dargus was already leading her away quickly. "I don't want to go back," she whispered fearfully. "Don't let them take me back!"

"I don't intend to," Dargus said. "We'll have to find another way out. This way!" He led her through the back of the hotel, out through the kitchens. "We just need to stay ahead of them. Come on, we can cut through here."

Their bags had been left behind in the course of their flight, but the clothes no longer mattered to Rae. Freedom did. Dargus steadied her as Rae stumbled in her desperation, but she grew more panicked as shadows fell across the opening at the end of the alley - three shadows that seemed to meld into one large, ominous dark shape. Raeila wept.

Time slowed for Dargus as he shifted gears from friend to protector. He stepped in front of Raeila, protecting her and shielding her with his body.

His body moved fluidly as he pulled two slim cylinders from the inside of his jacket. With a hiss, each extended out a meter casting a crimson glow over the darkness. Dargus Kandran stood ready to face whatever they threw at him. "Go," he whispered to Raeila. "Get to Koran and Laedra." Then in a louder voice, he called out, "There is nothing for you here unless you seek pain. Be gone!"

"Ask and You Shall Receive"

And Theen Fida

Kitana had left the group that she had joined when she arrived to the party. The large room was full of people and it was quite visible that the party went well. Kitana remembered that when her mother was alive it was very common to have parties like this for the upper class of Gallor. Those days were calm ones, since there was peace, now it wasn't quite so...

She received her drink, since she had gone to the bar to get some more. She walked to the room to see Gengis dancing with a beautiful lady. Strange... he seemed to surpass all that guilt he had had. Kitana examined the girl a little more, but she couldn't recognise the girl. She stood there alone, she wished that at least Raydan was there, because at least he made some company for her, but now... She then saw Ambassador Fida approaching her. "Ambassador, is the party going as well as you had hoped so?"

"Yes everything is just fine. I trust you are having a splendid evening? I see you have made well with Amii'a," Theen had answered.

"Yes, I am," Kitana responded with a smile on her face. "Yes, Amii'a is an extremely nice person. I like her, she has done more than Tae'Karada itself has done this past month." Kitana saw Oot in the distance and then turned away, looking to Theen again.

"Yes," Theen had replied. "She has worked hard for the interests of Tae'Karada and has been a great help with my work here for the New Republic and the Outer Rim worlds."

Theen noticed Kitana's glare in the direction of Oot Kovan. He knew that Kitana had been turned down for aid by Oot in the past, when she had gone to Arcadia seeking to join with the Alliance of Outer Rim worlds. From what Theen had gathered, Gallor had a lot of resources to offer in galactic trade. Though Gallor had been rife with war lately, the world and its people could be a great asset to the League that he was forming.

"So tell me, Kitana, how are things for Gallor at this time? I know that the New Republic has offered limited aid."

"Yes, during our civil war, the New Republic aided us with limited resources, of course the aid helped to give us enough of an edge to win it, but I fear the Civil War left us so much destruction, that now we are sitting ducks waiting to be invaded and some people simply don't care. They care only about themselves." Kitana gave a look to Oot and then made a disguise that she didn't even look at Oot.

"Oot is a very powerful woman," Theen commented. "It is too bad that Gallor did not receive aid from the Alliance, for whatever reasons she had. Perhaps at the time her position over Tae'Karada was still fresh, and the state of Gallor was too unstable to warrant any alliance for fear of what was to come of Gallor."

Theen could feel Kitana's indifference, he thought it wise for her to move on from it.

"My dear, Gallor can still rise from the ashes and become a prominent and powerful figure within the Outer Rim. All you ever have to do is ask me for help. As we speak, I'm afraid Gallor is taking a turn for the worse...join the League Amii'a has told you about, let me help Gallor to rebuild and take its rightful place among the stars. You will find that all I ask in return only benefits Gallor and yourself."

Kitana smile towards Theen. Finally someone has the balls to help in this planet, Kitana thought. "Very well, Ambassador. Can you help Gallor? Can you help any refugees if Gallor is invaded by Imperial Remnants, or when they need to be evacuated?"

Theen straightened his posture, towering over the Gallorian female. "I can and I shall. The Imperial Remnant will not be allowed to gain a foothold here in the Outer Rim. I can send reinforcements that the Alliance would not, I can give more aid that the New Republic has not. If the time comes when Gallorians need refuge, they will have it, if Gallor is to be a member of the League. A great many resources can be at your disposal, Kitana, with your allegiance to the League. You can rebuild Gallor to its rightful place among the stars and never fear for its sovereignty again."

Kitana smile. "I thank you for your support, Ambassador. Gallor will be eternally grateful for your support."

Theen bowed down to Kitana. "It works both ways, Representative. We help those who can't help themselves. By accepting membership into the League, you have secured the future of Gallor by means you have yet to come to realize."

Theen took her hand and offered for her to walk with him.

"There is still much to discuss, but we can save that for another time. Regardless, when and if Gallor is in need, you shall have it. Fear not. Come, let's enjoy the rest of the evening, shall we? Care to dance with an old man who still knows how to shake it up? Hahahaaaaa."

"Fight for Possession, Part 1"

Raeila screamed as a metal crate once resting on the alley's floor hurtled past Dargus and towards her. One of his two blades shot outwards to spear it and alter its course, while his other weapon parried a strike from Vorgoth. Nieme and Dani lingered behind the Zabrak, content to watch for now and target Raeila with various objects when they could, just as with the crate.

They erupted into shrill laughter when Raeila dropped to the ground to avoid it, though the wooden box crashed harmlessly into the facing wall thanks to Dargus. He'd ordered her to leave, but Raeila couldn't knowing he would face his death so she could escape. She refused to allow such a sacrifice, even though fear was urging her to run. But, she resisted and watched helplessly as Dargus battled in her honour.

Dargus' perceptions were stretched to encompass himself, Raeila, and their adversaries. He kept note of their positions, and anything else that might be intruding from the periphery. The Force was with him as he battled the Zabrak, crimson blades clashing against the single double-bladed saber. He knew he could defeat Vorgoth in a fight, knew himself to be the more powerful and skilled combatant. The presence of Nieme and Dani, however, threw the odds into the wind. He was not certain he could defeat the three of them working in tandem. Even with the girls baiting Raeila with hurled objects, it was forcing himself to divert attention from the Zabrak.

"Raeila, run," he shouted again. "Get out of here and find the Jedi." He adjusted the grip on his left-hand saber, and drove it toward the Zabrak, as he did, he released a torrent of crackling energy that coursed over the blade and into Vorgoth. It rippled across his dark robes, burning at fibers and skin alike.

Raeila flinched at the display, mesmerized by the elemental forces being wielded by Dargus. But, she finally yielded to his commands and scrambled to her feet. With a final, longing gaze in his direction, Raeila whimpered and dashed away.

Vorgoth took a small leap behind to regain his stance and screamed in rage. He was used to controlling pain as part of his training, and he channeled his pain to strengthen his rage even further. Grinning with fiery eyes, he opened his hand at Dargus and sent a bolt of lightning into his chest, then immediately leapt over his. Vorgoth's attack missed Dargus, striking at his blade instead, but it managed to place Dargus inside a circle, now surrounded by Vorgoth, Nieme and Dani. Vorgoth used the Force to pull Raeila back, making her fall onto the ground and then focused on Dargus, who was now surrounded.

"You betrayed us," Nieme chided in a sing-song. She twirled her weapon in her hand while circling Dargus on one side, and Dani on the other. "You led Tala and the others away. You masked them from us." Nieme halted behind him and tsked. "Not very nice."

"I figured betraying you wouldn't be so bad," Dargus said as he fended off one of Vorgoth's attacks and used his other blade to push Dani back. "You're still just children, playing at grown up things. Me, me, me." With a thought, he tossed the Zabrak ten meters straight back, and rounded on Nieme. "I figure you'd appreciate me doing my own thing for my own selfish reasons, since that appears to be your sole motivation. So, Nieme, how much would it take for you to betray your lover? I'm thinking not very much. Your loyalty dangles by but a thread. Just a taste of what you desire, and I think you'd willingly toss her aside. Either that or your paranoia will fray your partnership to the point where neither of you can stand each other." He spun back quickly, blocking an attack from Vorgoth, and used the Force to casually toss Nieme back against the wall. Though, Dargus could feel that the effort wasn't as casual as he wished. Too much more and his strength would begin to wane. He needed a way to end the fight, and fast.

"I love Dani!" Nieme growled. She thrust out a hand to halt Rae before she clambered too far. Grinning viciously, Nieme clenched her hand into a fist and Raeila gagged briefly before sprawling on the ground, making not another move or sound. "Very naughty of you, Dargus." She clucked her tongue and pushed off the wall into a languid gait. "She belongs to Jadda, or didn't he tell you? I do hope you didn't stick yourself inside of her or he might just kill her altogether."

"I bet that has you all distraught, doesn't it," Dargus sneered. "That she's not yours. And, I'm now of the belief that she doesn't belong to anyone but herself. Personally, I think you're just upset with the world in general because you didn't have what it took to hold on to your man."

"Shut up!" she screamed. "Kael's mine and always will be! And once this bitch is out of the way, there'll be nothing stopping us!" And feeding off her rage, Nieme sailed towards Dargus with lightsaber arcing over her head. The odds soon became three-to-one.

With Dargus concentrated on Nieme's attack, Vorgoth didn't waste one second. With a single thought he threw several objects at Dargus all at once, and to top it off thrust his double-bladed lightsaber at him and was able to scratch Dargus' left arm just barely, as his attack was parried just in the nick of time. He had hit clothes mostly, but there was no way Dargus could win against all three of them. Vorgoth grinned at the man in the middle of the circle. "You haven't one chance to win us all at once... Give up! Give up and we will kill you fast and without too much pain."

"Certainly," Dargus said. "Of course, I'll give in to the man who serves a slug, the man who can't even be his own master. You're a pathetic waste of potential, Zabrak." In response, he reached out through the Force, eliciting a choked gasp from Dani as all oxygen was cut off from her lungs, and then propelled his fist, pushing a cushion of Force energy into Vorgoth's chest. The Sith flew back and cracked into the wall, sending spidery cracks across its surface. "I don't give up," Dargus snarled. "Especially not to a Hutt's dropping."

"And what about to me?" Nieme, who had eluded Dargus' attention, stood behind him with an almost cheerful smile. "Will you surrender to me, then? You do owe us, Dargus. You betrayed us for those worthless Jedi." She narrowed her eyes and shook her head slowly. "How could you?"

"I gave your slaves a chance to be free because they didn't deserve to be locked up and made to serve your twisted desires," Dargus answered. "You were holding people Raeila cared about, and so I allowed them to go free."

"People you helped us imprison!" Nieme smirked and strolled towards him. "When did you become a hypocrite, Dargus Kandran? And what's with the new face anyway? You think a new identity will help erase the past?" She snorted. "Fool."

"My past will always be there," Dargus answered. "But my future is not yet formed. When will you cease being a spoiled, naive little brat? Someday you will learn that the response to not getting what you want isn't a tantrum. Now, allow us to leave, and I will allow the three of you to live."

Nieme covered her mouth and giggled daintily. "Scary Dargus is dealing out threats? Oh, how far he has fallen!" Her features darkened, all trace of humour gone. "No, I think we'll keep the little bitch. I know Vorgoth has fancied a taste for some time. You're outnumbered, Dargus." She stepped back and extended her weapon's blade towards him. "Fight and die, or surrender and live long enough to see Vorgoth take Raeila before your eyes."

Dargus clenched a fist and Dani gagged. "Let's fight then," he snarled. "Let me take care of your little friend first, though."

"Let her go," Nieme warned. "You kill her and I'll cut you down before you can even think about killing me."

"Sure you will," Dargus said. "You don't have the strength to take me down, Nieme. Not now, not ever."

At his feet, Dani struggled. She felt the edges of darkness closing around her, consuming her. She found a beacon in the darkness, something to reach for. She did reach and found a wellspring of Force energy. She touched it, tapped it, and it filled her. Inside, her Force awareness tensed, and then she flexed her being. The hold Dargus had on her shattered and air whooshed back into her lungs. She let out a gasping cry and leapt to her feet, Force energy filling her. "Bastard," was all she said as she raised her purple blade against Dargus.

Nieme grinned savagely and joined her lover, launching herself at his other blade. Vorgoth, meanwhile, was gathering himself from the ground. Blades hissed and sizzled as they connected; Dani and Nieme would not be staved off.

Raeila was rousing from the imposed unconscious thrust upon her by Nieme. She was groggy and disoriented as she sat upright, but the scene before her was enough to demand her focus. Dargus was close to the losing end of a battle, and she was helple
